BIRTHDAY GROTTO PARTY

Light snow mixes with misty rain, but it means there’s not as much snow on the ground, even this late into December. It promises to come back with a vengeance tomorrow, but for now, the chill’s not bone deep. As always, the Grotto remains a little warmer than the surrounding woods, which are filled with mist. The mountains in the distance are completely obscured, creating an evening that’s either romantic or spooky, depending on how you feel about the forest.

Tonight, the Grotto is festive. Lights are strung from the trees and hang overhead, red and green. There’s the familiar roaring bonfire surrounded by assorted logs for sitting on, plus a handful of weather worn chairs probably stolen from the lodge in years past. Two of those stolen chairs are decorated to resemble tacky thrones for the birthday boys. Blinking Christmas lights adorn them. The looming stone building is full of the laughter, giggling and cheers of those playing kissing games. Spirits are high, even as the music shifts between bright, sparkling dance music (Levi) and dreamy, introspective folk (Diego). Everyone time your grinding and your slow dances for the right songs! In ice chests around the fire, there’s plenty of booze available, as well as juice and soda for mixing (fancy!) or drinking virgin. There are also snacks, although chances are it wasn’t Azurcrest that provided those. Take note of the bins for empty bottles and cans. Don’t litter, guys, seriously.

A new addition is a series of “borrowed” tents just beyond the bonfire. They’re full of blankets and pillows, and have generous warming charms cast inside them. Technically they’re meant for hanging out with a handful of friends (about 4 people can sit in them comfortably)... but if you claim one and zip up the flaps, most people will get the message: Do Not Disturb. (Remember to keep things PG-13, and fade to black if necessary!)

RULES

Teen peer pressure (and player sadism) aside, no one is obligated to do anything they don't want to. Characters doing Seven Minutes In Heaven can spend the time just talking or staring awkwardly at each other, and characters playing Spin The Bottle can opt out of a kiss (although people will probably boo).

If characters get up to anything more racy than PG-13, please fade to black on that! This includes sexually explicit conversations. Many people track IC/OOC posts, so please have consideration for your fellow players. Talking about sex is fine (and part of the flavour of a teen game), but there's no need to get into detailed descriptions of anatomy or sex acts.

If you'd like to say two characters were partners in STB or 7MIH in addition to what's been rolled, feel free! Obviously, get the permission of all involved characters first.

» Before the Party: It’s the last day of classes, and time seems to stretch on forever. How did you prepare for the party?

» Around the Fire: The bonfire’s built high and burning bright, so it’s quite cozy here. Cuddle, make s’mores, or dance to the jarring playlist! There’s a Karaoke setup for anyone who feels bold enough to sing along. If you don't care for music, there's beer and soda in the ice chests.

» Inside the Building: This may be where the kissing games are taking place, but there's still some room to just snuggle and chat.

» Kissing Games: This is where to post your character's reaction to their Spin the Bottle and Seven Minutes in Heaven Assignments!

Spin The Bottle: Everyone sits in a circle and takes turns spinning the bottle to find their partner. Anyone who squeezes in (or happens to be accidentally standing behind a gap in the circle) gets a shot at a kiss. People can leave and enter the game at any time. Participants will be encouraged by their drunken classmates to kiss on the mouth.
Seven Minutes in Heaven: "Heaven" is a narrow, closet-sized room adjacent to the main party, and is dark except for some cracks of light from the door. (The "door" being a heavy wooden board that's propped against the doorway and magically "locked" for seven minutes.) You can use your wand to get more light, but really, you two should be making out.

» Quidditch Beer Pong: Not far from the bonfire, Sy Stoker has set up a table with Quidpong. Nearby is a supply of red ping pong balls, Solo cups, and a waterproof signup sheet. Post your character/team under this heading to call for a challenger! Ask a friend to post results for you, or use the honour system. :)

» The Tents: Cozy up in one of these tents with a few friends… or just one friend in particular.

» The Woods: They’re mistier than usual, so don’t wander far. No one will be able to see if you leave the party…

» After the Party: The party only wraps up hours after midnight, and those who can still stand will help with the cleanup. Sometimes "cleanup" includes their drunk or dozing classmates. It’s cold out here, you should really go home!

The unexpected contact causes Jacob to jump back a bit, but of course there's no room to actually move and he lets out a string of expletives as he bangs his shoulder against the wall. Which quickly switches to awkward laughter of all things, but he has been drinking. "So we're both in here because we're no good at saying no to our friends. Fuck. Not sure what that says about either of us, but I guess that's another thing we have in common."

Being this close to Isaiah again and actually being (mostly) in his right mind is definitely a weird experience. Not bad, but also impossible not to think about things said and done less than a month ago. Or rather, things not done. They never actually kissed that day, and given how weird this school is, maybe this is supposed to be a do-over. Jacob's lips are suddenly feeling very dry in the winter air. "So... awkward silence, awkward conversation, or awkward kissing? Hard to choose with options like those."

As has Isaiah, and while he's initially torn between asking Jacob if he's all right and not moving again, ever, the laughter prompts a chuckle of his own. And then another. This really is absurd.

"I'm very fond of silence," he admits. "It hurts me when it's awkward." Which...is sort of saying he'd prefer one of the other options, but hell if he knows what to talk about.

Jacob snorts softly and then it's silent. Which, fuck, Isaiah just opted not for. And he's right. It's painful. So.. conversation, conversation...

"Okay, you know what? Fuck it." Jacob says and finds Isaiah's face in the dark, pulling him into a kiss. His kissing experience is limited to the few drunken rounds of Spin the Bottle he's played since coming to Gooseberry this year, but no one's going to say a Coppertale doesn't at least try.

That is...it's surprising. Under the circumstances, it's more like shocking, and Isaiah is initially completely frozen. Unlike Jacob, however, he does have experience in kissing beyond parry games and even Gooseberry pranks. He has an idea how it's done, and if he was completely sober, that wouldn't matter, but he's not, so he finds himself kissing back without entirely meaning to. It's odd. But not terrible? Kissing is nice. People are right about that. It's better when no one else I'd watching you, too.

When Isaiah freezes, Jacob almost immediately springs off him to apologize for misjudging the situation, but when he feels Isaiah kissing him back the tension uncoils. Meet someone.. kiss.. fall in love.. that's what's supposed to happen, in some order. There's probably supposed to be a lot more talking in between those steps and less drugged tea and kissing shacks. Wait, he should probably be thinking about lips right now. And how there are definitely lips on his lips.

Jacob breaks off the kiss and starts to laugh again. "Shit. This is so weird. I'm sorry."

For a moment there, Isaiah was outside of his own head. He wasn't thinking, just doing, anxiety taking a back seat to alcohol and impulse and instinct.

And then Jacob pulls away, and it all comes crashing back, because shit. Shit. He's in a 'closet' with an almost - complete stramger, more than a little drunk and doing things that aren't like him. Shit. Why did he think this was a good idea again?

"Don't be sorry," he manages after a moment, sounding a little strangled. "We. Uh. We tried. Our friends can be proud?"

The rush of relief that comes from being back to just talking is too much for Jacob to catch that Isaiah isn't sharing in this feeling. He exhales loudly, leaning back against the wall. "If you're giving anyone a play-by-play, try to make me sound a lot more impressive?" This whole thing is so embarassing, but at least Isaiah thinks so too, so that's something to laugh about, right? Jacob is so terrible at this.

Isaiah can still feel his face burning, but he's doing his best to hide his discomfort. He hates it when people mention that he looks uncomfortable: it just makes things more awkward. Therefore, he tries to look...well, normal.

"You swept me off my feet," he agrees. "Best kiss I've had all year."

The fact that there's not much competition for that title doesn't bear mentioning.

	It's a nice laugh. Isaiah is rather sorry that it's stifled, and the fact that it happened at all relaxes him a little. Just a smidgen. 	Isaiah is only too happy to be saved by the Bell. He nods and flees, trying not to look too eager about it as he leaves the closet. Everything he said was true, but that doesn't mean he's not happy to get back to...well, not playing kissing games any longer, that's for sure. (Reply to this) (Parent)
