Name: Sylvester Stoker

What do they look for in a person?: When he first started getting interested in girls (i.e. when social pressure made him realize that boys his age were supposed to be interested in girls, especially if you wanted to posture as the alpha male of your 8th grade class), Sy flirted with everyone and went out with whomever wanted to give him a shot. Indiscriminate flirting is still his M.O., but with every passing year he's grown less interested in being a relationship just to prove his masculinity. Thank god for that.

If Sy has a "type," it's girls who really know their own mind and aren't intimidated by him. Not that they fight him, exactly, but they're unfazed by the way he acts? Sy talks a lot of shit and usually responds to aggression with more aggression, so you need to be able to talk to him without winding him up, which is tricky because he's such a cranky shitty person, lmao. But he can be really playful if he likes you, and enjoys doing dumb things with other people and flirting obnoxiously. Sy admires people who aren't faffing about what they want out of life, and is most drawn to confidence, ambition and directness.

What do they find romantic?: Sy knows how to pull off by-the-books romance. He's been in a few (short-lived) relationships, and he's learned Acceptable Manners as the eldest Stoker son, expected to charm debutantes at fancy events. He knows he's supposed to bring her flowers and hold open the door for her and take her side when she's verbally cutting down her lackeys. Consequently, he sees "romance" as very artificial, because almost all the romantic gestures he's ever done were just following a script instead of what he actually wanted to do.

And what he'd want to do is...??? I think he's one of those people whose ideal romance is basically just a friendship? When he's close to someone, he's very protective of them (so many threats to punch people), and he can be, uh, nurturing? Not emotionally—he's terrible about that—but he's conscious of being supportive of their interests/dreams/etc., and gives out praise freely and honestly, and will kick their asses into gear to make sure they succeed. Sy's not really a showy person, so practical gestures and concrete shows of support (going both ways) are what counts most with him.

Who do they have a crush on?: Clementine Decourt. He's been trying to act cool about it, but it should be obvious to anyone with eyes that Sy really likes Clem, because Sy has the subtlety of a brick.

Are they seeing someone right now?: Sy would say no, because he is desperately trying to avoid/delay the Sy Stoker Destruction Cycle (see below). But I think if Clem actually wears his Coppertale scarf to his game and Sy wears her Ebonhide scarf to her game this month, then he is fooling himself about not seeing someone.

What are they like in a relationship?: He's surprisingly nice, starting out. Like, weirdly nice. Lots of attention, compliments, cute kisses, boilerplate romantic gestures. He'll make the attempt to act like A Boyfriend, and follow that script for as long as he can stand it. THIS IS THE STEP ONE TO HOW SY ALWAYS RUINS IT because following scripted behaviours will quickly become suffocating to him, since that's how he always acts at home with his parents. STEP TWO: be in denial how much you hate being A Boyfriend, because you still really like this girl, and progress the relationship by pushing for the next obvious phase, sex. Because that's what all men are supposed to want. STEP THREE: realize you can't do it. You cannot do it. Torpedo this thing. DO IT NOW. Just ghost on her or act like a complete jerk to her or pretend you don't give a shit anymore, and her friends will be begging her to kick your ass to the curb. If she won't pull the trigger, then just dump her without warning. Rinse and repeat.

I have no idea how Sy acts when he's trying to be a normal person in a relationship. It hasn't happened yet.

Anything else?: Sy has no idea what asexuality is, and has nowhere near enough emotional maturity to ask the question that will lead him to discovering it's a thing. He's not aro, though, which has created a distressing cycle wherein he keeps developing serious feelings for girls and then not wanting to do anything with them physically??? He just keeps trying in the hopes that this situation will magically fix itself.

i mean sy's current plan is just to avoid ever ~defining the relationship~, so there will NEVER be any expectations on how he's supposed to act

BUT ANYWAYS, you know how Sy assumes Rosy operates exactly like him? ROSY DOES THE SAME THING (it's almost like they do operate the exact same way 98% of the time) and thinks that the reason he's bombed every one of his relationships is because he can't get close to anyone. Which has her paranoid about her own relationship because look at all of this undeniable proof.

But also she ships Sy & Clem.

She might also just be happy it's not someone she hates. She got pretty fucking panicked when he went to the Halloween dance with Coralee.
