Michael shook his head quickly. "Sorry, I didn't mean it like that." Well, he had. But he realized he was being an idiot. His father might be wrong about most things, but he was right about that. Twenty years old, living at home and working a part-time job, and now being an idiot to the mother of his child. Not to mention that being an idiot was the reason there was going to be a child in the first place. He took a deep breath. "If you want me to go with you, I will. Just let me know when they are so I can make sure my work schedule doesn't interfere. I get to pretty much pick my own hours."
He stared down at the food the waitress had brought him. Now he didn't much feel like eating. He picked up his coffee and stared at it for a moment, then looked up again at Aveline with a small smile. "If nothing else, I want to get to know you better. We haven't really talked much in the time we've known each other."
