Roger wasn't wrong about her. Maybe Katie shouldn't have been surprised by that, but she was a little bit, even if she didn't let that show in her responses to him.
She laughed and shook her head at him. "Hardly," she murmured, glancing over the menu to see the items he was pointing out. Something stronger was definitely along the lines of what she wanted, even though common sense should have reminded her that getting intoxicated in Roger's presence was probably not the best idea. Common sense seemed to be on holiday this evening, though, and when it came time to order, she chose the steak and lager, just as he and the menu had recommended.
It didn't take long for their food to arrive and Katie was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly the conversation flowed between them while they waited. She was content to avoid the more serious subjects, but the conversation was far from unpleasant, as though the more serious topic earlier had made it easier to her to let go of her bias long enough to really listen to what he had to say.
Of course, the lager helped, too. Katie started to relax a little bit more as she got a little alcohol into her system, which could have been a good or bad thing, depending, but for the moment, she was enjoying herself.
[*cough* so I may have kind of fast forwarded a LITTLE, because I have playing out all the small talk. :P]
