Roger followed the swift topic change with complete ease. He chuckled about the anecdote, politely inquired as to Angie's health, and responded with an amusing story about Michael. The serious demeanor was smoothed over, and littletrace of it remained, as though he could turn it off an on like a tap. He'd learned to do so, and now it was second nature. He was genuinely enjoying the conversation however, and that showed in his smile.
Roger gave Katie an appraising look before responding about the dinner selection. "I don't expect you have a little bird's appetite and would prefer something a bit more substantial. The roast chicken is quite good, as is the steak. There are wines suggested with each, but I found there's a robust house lager that accompanies the steak rather well, if you prefer something stronger."
He was leaning towards the steak and lager himself. He didn't know everything about Katie just yet, but he was certain he was right in assuming she wouldn't go in for fancy/tiny meals and light-as-air wine.
