Katie merely smirked at his compliment, all the while pretending that she didn't enjoy hearing him tell her she looked good or that she didn't think he looked fantastic, himself.
"No, of course not," she heard herself answering him pleasantly, waving off his apologies for last time. She was pretty sure she had completely lost her mind when she took the arm he was offering, especially when she found herself being almost impressed by his chivalry. She definitely could not let herself fall into that trap.
"It's alright," she assured him, as though it wasn't a big deal. And it wasn't. Katie was telling herself this was just something she'd agreed to in order to shut him up and that she hadn't been in any way disappointed when he'd canceled before.
"Have things calmed down at work, then?" she asked, mildly curious, but also just trying to make conversation.
