Cooking for strange people was a bit nerve racking. Not to say that Neville's new girl, or prosepective girl, was strange, but rather a stranger. Or she was to Dennis at least. But he had enough to go on.
She was a former ballet dancer, and that told Dennis she probably and habitually watched her weight. So anything fattening or heavy was probably out. And he wasn't the type to go overboard anyway. Welcoming someone was one thing, but killing the fatted calf was another.
He settled on fish stew seasoned with Saffron, a take on bouillabiasse but lighter and easier. A salad of blood oranges and chicories to start and he'd just chop of chunks of his best belgiun dark chocolate, more bitter than sweet, with some nuts for the pudding.
That taken care of, he set to cleaning. Not much to be done as he was tidy by nature, but there were a few odds and bits to be put away. Books mostly, they seemed to overflow from his library into other rooms. Speaking of the library, there was a damp spot he meant to get looked at. He'd do that in the coming week. Someone in his deptartment had given him a name, a friend of a friend had used this man, so Dennis would owl him soon.
That was for later, however. For now. the cleaning up done, himself freshly bathed, flowers on the table and wine chilled, he sliced and grilled bread on the range as he waited for their arrival.
