❖ summary. Rodolphus intends to inform Bella of his intentions to attain an heir.
Rodolphus was under no delusions that Bella was going to be enthused about his notions of late. It is one of the reasons he had kept them from her when, in truth, he kept little from her. This had been something to be formulated out in his mind first though, then on the pages of the journals that lined the wall behind his desk – private thoughts spanning the years. Part of the trouble, was that there were only two logical ways to achieve Rodolphus’ recent obsession, and one of those involved becoming a widow. He had no desire for Bella’s death – in fact, he truly believed it would be his ruination. Still…. Rodolphus was a man to get what he wanted… if he wanted to keep Bella and that was at odds with having an heir, well then it was time to find a third option because he was not willing to give up either desire. There was only one logical way – only Bellatrix was not going to take kindly to sharing. Still, Rod also could not have her killing whoever it ended up being before he got what he wanted. The only way to make this work was if Bella was part of it… so the trick was to get Bella to be part of it. Rodolphus had situated in the parlor. A fire blazed in the hearth. A rich red wine from Côtes du Rhône was already decanted and breathing. He had considered a gift – but as it was, Bella was going to know from the start that he wanted something. While he could be incredibly thoughtful and romantic in his way – it was more in the manner of the immediate and spontaneous gesture. That Rodolphus had gone to this much effort to set a comfortable scene generally meant trouble. He was expecting trouble too. All of the objects d’art in the room had been charmed against breakage and his favorite paintings had been warded for their own protection should a stray hex fly… though Bella usually hit her mark with deadly accuracy. Now he just had to wait for her to get home… Rodolphus had never been good at waiting. |
