Ash knew a brush-off when he heard one. He gave her a leering wink he was certain was dashing and would make her heart flutter. "Sure, sure. I'll save the rest for another time."
After a moment's silence he added, "So...where do we sleep?"
The Hottie gave him a sidelong look. "I sleep in a cabin of my own. You can find an empty one to claim." She pulled on her shoes and picked up her pack. She picked up her albino dragon and he settled on one shoulder. "See you around, Ash."
"Yeah."
Ash watched her walk out, enjoying the way her hips swayed. After she left, he moved to a window and watched her until she entered a cabin. She never looked back. But now he knew which one was hers.
Lights shined from windows in several others. It was only just full dark now, so he assumed if there were no lights on nobody was present in the dark cabins. Who'd go to sleep at sundown? "Nobody, that's who," he said to Temujin.
I am hungry, Temujin announced.
"Yeah? Well, I'm fresh out of meat, buddy."
Ask the Goddess, Temujin said.
Ash scowled, not liking that suggestion. But with no better idea in mind, he decided it was worth a shot. He looked up at the ceiling. "Hey, uh, Goddess?"
He felt even stupider than he was certain he looked, talking to an empty room. "Look, I don't know if you're real...." He glanced down at his restored hand. "Well, okay, I guess you're real, but.... Hell, how about some food for my little buddy here, huh?"
Food! Temujin shouted, and pounced. He snatched a morsel of meat from a small wicker basket which had not been there a moment before.
Ash gaped. He looked up again, "How about a million dollars?" he asked. He glanced around eagerly. Nothing. He blew out his breath in frustration. "Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Maybe set my sights a little lower, yeah? How about a brew?"
Still nothing.
"This blows," Ash announced. Still, at least Temujin was content.
Ash reluctantly sprawled in one of the chairs against the wall. "When you're done gorging yourself," he said to Temujin, "let me know. We'll go find a place to sleep."
