Michelle hid her annoyance about being interrupted behind her best Poker face, the same one she wore when facing potential duels with other immortals. This guy, at least, was not one of them.
He was about a head taller than her, broader, and heavier. But that was par for the course. Most men were bigger than she was. Very dark hair, brown eyes, and remarkable chin. He approached her, but stopped outside of grabbing distance, hands raised.
"Who the hell are you?" Michelle demanded, pleased that she could speak without any trouble despite her workout.
"Ash Williams," the strange replied. "Who the hell are you?"
"Michelle Webster. You a new arrival?" She hadn't seen him before, though she hadn't seen most of the others yet, just their posts on the tablet network. But she didn't remember seeing his name either.
"Yeah," he said. "About that. How the hell did I get here? And where is here, anyhow? And--" his gaze flicked to the floor near her feet. "Is that a dragon?"
Michelle chuckled. "Yes, it's a dragon. His name is George. What about your tiger?"
"Temujin," Ash said.
Michelle grinned, glancing at the cat. "Temujin? Really."
Ash eyed her through narrowed eyes. "What's so funny about his name?"
"You don't know? It was the birth name of Ghengis Khan. Sheer coincidence, I'm sure."
Ash clearly didn't get her little joke. He frowned, then shook his head, shaking off the question. "You didn't answer my questions. How'd I get here? And where is this place?"
"I assume the Goddess brought you here, like the rest of us. And as for where we are? I have no fucking idea. Nobody does."
Ash snorted. "Goddess? Lady, I don't have time for superstitious nonsense. This ain't the Stupid Ages." He gestured vaguely at the electric lights overhead. "How'd we get here?"
"I told you," Michelle repeated. "The Goddess brought you here. If you have a problem with that, take it up with her." She could tell already that this guy was going to be annoying, but he didn't seem to be a threat.
She relaxed enough to lean down and pull a towel from her open backpack. She wiped her face, keeping an eye on him all the same. "There's close to a dozen of us so far," she told him.
