WHO: Jayden WHEN: May 6, afternoon WHERE: Down by the General Store SUMMARY: The heat, as well as the previous night’s barbecue activities, have drawn animals into Newhalem territory. STATUS: Complete WARNINGS: Language
tacked to the door, a drawing with the caption: REWARD FOR LOST PET?
It was hotter than it had any right to be. Jayden had experienced much worse during her time in the desert, but what the fuck — they said all it ever did in the PNW was rain, so where the hell was the rain?!
Shedding her favorite leather jacket and additional layers of clothing for a simple, stripped-down tank and jeans, Jayden used her bandana to tie her hair up off of her neck and walked her happy ass down to the General Store with nothing but her messenger bag to keep her company. If the rest of the community was functioning on power right now, surely this place would have a cold drink, right? She thought it was such a genius plan that she was surprised no one else was trampling her down to get there first.
The store was currently unmanned, which struck her as odd, because who was to keep anyone from just taking everything for themselves if no one was around to regulate? It's not like currency meant shit anymore, but then, neither did civilized society. Everyone was out for themselves now. Helping herself to an orange Fanta from the cooler, Jayden stood in front of the door for what felt like several minutes to cool down and then went and sat out on the makeshift porch of the store to drink her pop.
While she was enjoying the cool drink sliding down her throat and the shade of the canopy above, Jayden caught sight of movement out of the corner of her eye. She turned her head, watching as not one, not two, not even three - but SEVEN.... yeah, SEVEN - raccoons scurried closer from out of a bush.
Except.. they weren't regular raccoons. There was something fucked up about the way they moved. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out a sketchpad and began drawing, adding her own embellishments for amusements sake. Only one raccoon seemed to realize she was sitting there, though, and it made a frenzied beeline toward her. Jayden jumped to her feet, punting it away with the toe of her boot when it got too close for comfort, and packed up her things to get the hell out of dodge... but not before leaving behind her drawing.
Maybe she was just delirious from heat exhaustion and had imagined it. Or something.
