bourbon and fire WHO: harley + paige WHEN: soon after the funeral WHERE: the large communal campfire SUMMARY:some people are less affected by the death of Dr Kline STATUS: in progress WARNINGS: TBD (possible smut? mentions of violence and language)
Death was normal.
Living was a bitch.
Especially when booze was running low.
Harley didn't mind not having a gun. He felt he could do enough damage with any sort of weapon and his machete did the job just fine. For zombies, people and for anything else. But whiskey and bourbon? Not having that around for the last year and a half was killing him. Every now and then he was able to scavenge up a bottle. He held onto that bottle for dear life, only taking sips when he really needed to. It was hard not to drown himself to the bottom of the bottle every night.
Not that life sucked that bad but damn, sometimes a guy just wanted to forget the holy shit he had to deal with every day.
He thought things had been going well with the addition of the new group. More people meant they were stronger. More eyes to defend them, more hands to work. But what everyone else seemed to be more worried about was more mouths to feed. Guess with the good doc's death, that was one less mouth. Harley hadn't known the guy personally. He hadn't even met him really but he'd seemed decent. There certainly was something sketchy about the stories surrounding his death but he wasn't about to get involved.
Not unless the drama was worth the trouble.
He'd done what he could for the funeral but as soon as he felt it was respectful to leave, he took off. It felt like more of a personal matter towards the end when people started to linger. Harley wasn't into personal. So he'd gone back to his room, grabbed his secret bottle of bourbon and then went back to one of the campfire spots that they all shared and sat down on one of the propped up lawn chairs. Fire and whiskey, a great way to spend the few hours he had until he'd need to get back to work.
For the most part, he ignored the other people that came and walked by but when he spotted Paige, he gave a soft whistle and smiled at her.
