Nora’s smile widened as she shook his hand, taking a moment to get a feel for him. His grip was firm and his eye contact steady; both were signs of someone possessing confidence and self assurance. But confidence was a neutral descriptor in her mind; she had met good people with poor confidence and untrustworthy people with high levels of confidence. So it could really go either way. That being said, Nora wasn’t quick to judge someone harshly (unless they were overtly cruel) and she did genuinely enjoy getting to know new people beyond the first impressions, so she hoped she could get to know her fellow farmer a bit better. Maybe he had some helpful tips and insight in regards to the crops, and he seemed friendly which she appreciated.
“More or less,” she responded light heartedly. There wasn’t really an appointed ‘boss’ when it came to the farming, though she supposed there ought to be. Whether that was her, or someone else; she didn’t have much of a preference. She had taken it upon herself to figure out what was needed to begin the crops and had overseen the planting and care-taking of them; but she knew also that she wasn’t the only one out here tending to them, since everyone had their own schedules.
She gestured toward the soil surrounding them, “I’ve noticed these have been weeded and watered in between my shifts, so I guess you are the person to thank for that?” Her smile was warm as she reached up to wipe away the drops of rain that had fallen across her face.
Thunder rumbled above as the temperature continued to drop. A cool breeze swept through the clearing.
“Seems like we’ve been sharing the same workload, just different times--” she stopped mid-sentence as the rain began to fall down in earnest now; heavy drops that displaced the soil slightly when they landed.
