OMG U R A GURL AND U PLAY GAME?
Two recent "episodes" of the OMG U R A GURL AND U PLAY GAME?
1. I am in charge of two adult ESL classes at work, and I've talked about video games in one of them. One of the students (a guy who's older than I am) totally freaked out when I recognised his all-time favourite: Mario Kart.
"But... But... How do you know that game? You're... a girl!" "So what? I'm old enough to know SNES games."
2. One of the boys at the Phonics class had the balls to ask me if I could play StarCraft.
"I'm not good at it at all, but yeah, I can play StarCraft. Which race do you usually play? Terran? Protoss? Zerg?" (Followed by answers from the boys. They said Terran and Protoss - none of them said Zerg.) "Heh, interesting. Most of you go for Protoss, eh? I prefer Protoss myself." (The boys rolled their eyes and I grinned at them like a Cheshire cat.)
Isn't it ridiculous that lots of boys think girls don't/can't play games? Share your stories and remind us why we, as "girl gamers", must laugh at 'em. ;)
