Alfie nodded. He had no idea how much it weighed, as he too didn't pay much attention in math class. Still, he felt he should ask considering Laney's mom taught math. And who really knew, maybe those things were inherited or something. Without much more explanation, Alfie bent and picked up the beam which was easily about three feet bigger than him. He held it in his hands as if it weighed no more than a common baseball bat and marveled at the fact that lifting an actual baseball bat didn't feel any differently.
He looked over at her and smiled. "This is why," he replied, careful not to let the beam teeter too much in her direction and working with the wind to keep it stable on his hands. But then she asked that thing about Glory, and he frowned. It had caught him off guard to the point that the beam almost slipped from his grasp, but he held it tightly enough before just setting it down on the ground. "No. We're just friends. More like lab partners or whatever. I mean, we get along some times." He conveniently left out the part about her being pretty. "But some times she kind of annoys me."
