Having Lukas react to touching him as though he accidentally touched a leper didn't make him feel any better, but he swallowed his offense. He couldn't go yelling now, not after saying how he wanted to be friends and all that. It would be rather counter productive, wouldn't it?
'I guess it doesn't.' Such a lie, because it did matter, but Mao nodded in agreement anyway. He knew now that it was just asking for trouble to even toe the edge of talking about his feelings. Things went better when they ignored the elephant. He took a cleansing breath, letting out the bad and keeping in the good. A tentative smile curved his lips, eventually shifting into a small, teasing smirk. "You could have, if you weren't such a pussy."
Luke had mentioned the heat and that brought the cold water around his ankles back to Mao's attention. His smirk turned into a devious grin. "How about I cool you off?" Mao being Mao, it was inevitable that, when around water, someone was going to get wet. With a kick of his foot he splashed the icy water in Luke's direction, laughing as though their tense moment was already forgotten.
