It took a moment, but Ariel realized he'd been sort of unconsciously leaning in closer and closer to Wes, and so he stopped himself, reclining back on his own heels. He watched as the other boy's eyes swept the room, searching for Aaron. (Oh, boy. Aaron. Right. Though, at least Ariel had gotten an agreement from Wes out of it.) The shorter boy swiveled to glance around the room too, but, if Wes didn't see anyone from his vantage, there was no way Ariel, down at 5'8", was going to see anything more.
"He'll come back if he really loves you," the boy heard himself saying. He resisted the urge to roll his eyes at his own stupidity and sipped quickly from his plastic cup. At the next question, happy to move on, he smiled and nodded. "Mmhmm, I am. I think she is too, though I've also lost her."
Ariel shrugged. He gave Wes a playful look over the rim of his cup.
"I do hope they turn up soon though, so we can get started on my plan."
