It wasn't that he didn't want to continue a friendship (if that's what they were calling it) but it was not really the first thing he'd expected to ever hear from her. Actually, it was probably the last. Judging by her short answer, he hadn't given a very good response, but what was he supposed to say?
Aaron stood up and straightened his jacket sleeves. "I mean..." What did he mean? He couldn't really backtrack and make the whole thing better. "You're like... Doing the play and stuff so... We'll see each other and stuff anyway. You weren't going to be rid of me that easily." He sort of gave a half laugh, but there wasn't really anything he'd said that had been funny.
