Who: Zarita and Open What: Looking at some new artwork When: Wednesday Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art Rating: probably low
Zarita gazed at the new pieces that had just come in. They weren't bad, but she was a little iffy on them being museum worthy, much less something to be considered modern classics. She wasn't even sure any of them would be worth stealing. The values of these pieces were supposed to be fairly large, but as she studied each piece, she couldn't help but feel that she would be slumming it to steal one of these. She supposed that should be a good thing, but in her mind that was just strange. She walked slowly around, taking in every piece. Some were indeed better than others, but she was more interested in works that had value far beyond that of its monetary worth. Perhaps a few of them would gain her interest after a while, but for now she would just learn what she needed to know.
It wasn't that she didn't respect these artists. She actually had a lot of respect for them. She even knew of a con that would raise the value of many of these paintings easily. Perhaps it was just the fact that they would be too easy to forge. Older art took time to get it just right. The things you had to do to age the painting and create just the right amount of wear on the canvas as well as the paint. The fact that you had to be sure to use a canvas from the same time period, and that usually entailed destroying another artist's work permanently. Not to mention the fact that you had to study every little detail of the artist's life so that you could know the paint they used, their style, their mood, and what they had gone through during the moments the painting was created. Forgery was an art in itself. Most of these works didn't need near as much preparation.
She smiled at one particular painting that gave her the feeling that the artist was a fan of Van Gough with a slight mix in of Picasso. She had never considered putting the two together, but this person made it work very well. She had to admit, the premise of some of these were clever. Usually her paintings were of things that she felt were beautiful to her. She had studied all the classical artists with her father, so her art style often consisted of a sort of mixture of them all. She had simply found within each styles something she liked about it, and she then put them all together to create a style all her own. She began walking towards the exit of the gallery when she noticed someone had just entered the gallery. "Hi there," she said with her usual charming smile on her face.
