Who: Josie & Boo
What: Josie makes him an offer
Where: A cafe near his yoga studio
When: backdated after this
Rating: TBD

Josie really didn't like this. Not about recruiting Boo, she liked that idea fine...it was her's to begin with. She didn't like just sending him a letter and her waiting to see if he'd take it seriously and show up. He could have thought it was a joke and ignore it. She could be spending this time with Adrian or her children. Also meeting in such a public place was troubling. Here she was with very private, very top secret files, files that if they fell into the wrong hands could doom the whole organization. She sipped her hot chocolate. Even after all these years she never grown to like coffee or even tea. Hot chocolate was warm, comforting, and not to mention delicious. She especially enjoyed it in these cold, snowy, winter months.

She was early, she knew, but even her knowing that didn't cause her to drum her fingers on the table nervously. That accompanied with her knees bouncing and her checking her watch every few minutes. However, she didn't have to wait much longer as Boo came through the door. She met his eyes and gave a little wave.

Curiosity had gotten the best of him. But then, how often did a person receive anonymous notes? If this whole thing turned out to be real, Boo had every intention of saying no. He simply had time between classes, and happened to want an Americano. It was all pretty innocent. If he met up with a crazy person, it was pretty possible that he could subdue them. KO punch, some kind of submission hold... He knew his stuff. Whatever. Long story short, he wasn't the type to get worried over little stuff like mystery emails or letters or whatever.

He gave a small wave in return to the blonde lady. He figured that was the contact, but if that was true, she wasn't very discreet. He ordered his coffee and once he had the warm mug in his hands, he took a seat across from her. "So, What's this all about? Is this for real?"

Josie raised an eyebrow at his comment. He wasn't one to slowly work his way into something was he. She gave a little laugh,

"Hi, how are you? I'm fine, thank you for asking." She took a sip of her hot cocoa,

"We've talked before, Boo," she extended her hand, "I'm Dr. Josie Clarke, and yes this is all very real and I'll get into what this is all about after you swear that nothing that is said here leaves this table. Because if we find out you spoke to anyone who doesn't have the proper clearance you will be...dealt with. Do you understand?" As she spoke her smile dropped as she fixed him with a serious stare, not a mean one, just one that told him she was being very serious with him.

Oh right. Manners. His mother would be appalled. But she wasn't here. And cryptic notes really didn't warrant good manners. Frankly, it was bad manners--in his opinion--to send a cryptic note in the first place.

He relaxed a little when she introduced herself. "Oh, so you're Caleb's doctor." He snorted. Oh god. If this was about Caleb, the answer was no. Flat out. No. "Okay, okay. I get it. I guess I'm just glad I didn't get a burlap sack over my head." Wouldn't that be a treat? He paused to sip his coffee, "This isn't about Caleb, is it?"

A small smile came to Josie's face when he snorted about her being Caleb's doctor. She had never herself seen the two men interact but she had heard Caleb rant about him on many occasions. The part of her that wasn't concerned about Caleb's well being wanted to see one of their little scuffles, just for a little amusement. But she knew that if he did get into it with Boo it would not end well for him so she prayed he wouldn't be too difficult when it was brought up. If Boo agreed that is.

"Yes, I'm Caleb's infamous doctor," she gave a little laugh. Josie tipped her head to the side slightly and gave a little shrug, "Trust me the burlap sack was the original plan but they thought you might be more receptive if I made the offer myself, in a public place instead of my regular interrogation room." She took a sip of her hot chocolate. She was dead serious, bringing an outside person into be a recruit or help in some way was rare. And if he said no they wanted to be able to wipe his memory quickly and efficiently. When he asked if it was about Caleb she pursed her lips and paused, "Sort of, not really though. It's mostly about you...and your record...and the possibility of it being expunged...depending on how cooperative you are and your performance naturally. So...are you interested in hearing the rest of my offer?"

His record.

Boo sat back in his chair. He liked teaching yoga. It was a good way to show that he was on the up and up now. The problem still remained, however, that he did have a pretty extensive rap sheet, that didn't just include the more recent offenses. Sure he'd beat a few people up a year or two ago, but there were also charges of theft and pickpocketing from his childhood and teenage years. Scout had them too, but obviously Scout didn't really give a fuck. Boo, on the other hand, was trying to make good. He'd had his wake up call. He'd had his ass handed to him physically, and it was terrifying. And now... Now there was Alice. He wasn't sure he was "in love" with her. Love was... Well, his parents had gotten divorced, that was the short answer. If he believed in love at all, he knew for sure it wasn't able to survive anything, and it made him warry, but he cared about her. A lot. And he didn't want his bad choices in the past getting in the way of him being with her in the future.

"You're telling me... I can have my record totally cleared?"

Josie knew she had his attention once she mentioned his record. He had a pretty extensive one but, unlike his brother, he seemed to be trying to follow the straight and narrow over the past few years. Getting his past erased would be appealing to someone like him. Also from her sessions with Caleb she knew he was dating Caleb's sister. She had only met Alice once only briefly but she could tell that she was a girl who had a tough time being "special" and yet wasn't as tainted as Caleb. She was a good influence on her brother, she made him want to get better, to be good for her...she seemed to have a similar effect on Boo.

A smile quirked the corner of her mouth, "Yes, but it does depend on your cooperation and performance. And I do mean your absolute cooperation and your best performance. If you stray slightly lives could be lost." She lowered her voice even more than the whisper she had been speaking at previously, "This job I'm offering you is very dangerous, your previous experience as a cage fighter is a plus. There is a lot of hand to hand fighting involved in this. But you do need to understand that you may be placed in life and death situations. We will train and equip you as best as we can but it all depends on how well you listen and how you work with your partner."

Josie pulled out a few sheet of paper stapled together, "This is a signed contract stating that by your cooperation and performance your record will be expunged accordingly. It also states what is expected of you," She put it back in the large envelope and passed it across the table to him, "We need your signature to see if you understand and agree to the terms. I will tell you as many of the specifics as I can. I think you understand why I was so insistent on you keeping quiet about this." She ran a hand through her hair and glanced around the cafe still not feeling that easy in such a public place.

"You will be one of our field agents, you will have a partner who is..."special"...powered, like myself...I assume you won't have a problem with that considered both your siblings are powered," she took a sip of her hot cocoa, "I've seen your brother in action, his power is very impressive. Oh, we brought him in once as well, removed some of his past discretions, not all. He helped us test one of our powered agents, your partner actually. He is one of the best, my husband was his partner originally." She bit her lip, Adrian wasn't out of the woods yet and the doctors didn't know when he'd be better. She still worried about what she would say or do if the worst happened, even though JJ told her to focus on the positive. She focused back on Boo, this was her job, this was important.

"My husband was injured out in the field, so much so that he will can no longer be a field agent. It was no fault of your partner's, Adrian...my husband was doing his job. Watching his partner's back just like he did for him. Risking their lives for the other, that is what is expected and that is what we expect from you. Your partner is your other half, you work together as a unit or you don't work at all. That is part of the cooperation I'm speaking about. You and he need to work together. He understands that just as we are expecting you to understand that. We state all of that in the contract." She pulled out a pen and held it out to him,

"I know that this is a lot and you probably want to think about it but we can't risk that. Either you sign this now or we are done and we have to erase your memory of this meeting and everything I told you." She waved the pen back and forth in front of him, "So...what do you say Mr. Collins?"

That. That was a fucking lot to take in. By the time she was done talking, Boo had pretty much polished off his coffee. She wanted him to... Answer now?

"Listen, isn't there any way I could... I don't know, think about this? You're asking me to make a life changing decision over coffee." It was a little ridiculous if you asked him, and she had, so he was telling her. "Why don't you slow this down a little?" If she wanted a split second decision, she probably should have asked him for drinks instead of coffee.

Josie was still waving the pen back and forth in front of him despite of everything. She stopped when she heard his response...it was normal...well she assumed it was normal. She usually was the one who presented the proposal to their "special" agents. Most of them had a choice between prison or these so they jumped at the chance. But she could understand him wanting to think it over.

"I know that you would like to think it over, but no, you can't. We can't risk you leaving here with what I just told you without you saying you're in," Josie gave a little shrug about it being over coffee, "Would you have preferred the bag over the head approach, because we can do that right now if you'd like?" She smirked when he asked her to slow down,

"Having enhanced speed I've always had a hard time slowing down but I'll do my best," she put the bed down and rested her chin in her palm, "So...which part do you want me to go over again?"

"Well that's pretty messed up, lady." Boo thought that whoever was in charge probably should have thought the whole thing through a little more. What kind of people expected someone to make a split second decision. When their whole life was at stake? Crazy people, he decided. Fucking crazy.

He rubbed his palm over his face. Ha ha. She made a joke. He didn't think that was appropriate. "How about we start with... Why me?"

"I don't make the rules Boo, I just have to follow them. If you join up you'll soon understand that. I'm not trying to be harsh or difficult here, but it is the way it is," Josie said sitting back in her seat. She could understand his view, she'd feel much the same had she been in his shoes.

Sure it had been sort of a joke, she couldn't stay serious for too long. She always tried to make her sessions fun. At his question she shrugged, "Why not you?" She gave a little laugh, "But seriously, I actually hand picked you. You were my suggestion. I read your file Boo, I know about your past and how you've changed for the better. You're an ideal candidate." She took a final sip of her hot cocoa. "I can tell you have a little bit of a protective streak...when it comes to those that need it that is. It isn't crazy out of control like Caleb's...but it's there. Also...you have something worth fighting for...someone you want to protect and make the world a better place for. That person you're trying to be a better person for. Having someone or something worth fighting for is one of the most important qualities in my opinion."

"There are other reasons I picked you," she smiled, "but...I can get into those later." Josie thought the qualities of him being able to handle Caleb could wait. She was going to wait until he agreed to spring that on him. "So...next question?"

Boo just gaped at her. It seemed like she'd answered his question, but , not really. It was disturbing how much she knew about him. His arrests were available to the public, but not all the information she seemed to have, he wouldn't say she was entirely accurate, as far as what she'd gleaned about his personality, but it was close enough.

"Okay, look. Can I at least see this place and get some more information before I decide, here? I'm not really in the business of making split second decisions anymore." Which she probably should have known, he figured.

Josie took Boo's expression is that she was right in her assessment...if not 100% at least pretty close. Sure she did read his file but most of the things that she said were from reading him and also part of her suspected the reason why Caleb disliked him so much, apart from his irrational hatred for all non-powered people, was that Boo and he were quite similar. Similar family structures, both got into some trouble in their youth, and she was pretty sure some of their views on certain things were the same. She'd probably learn more once he agreed and when he made the comment about wanting to see the facilities she knew he would say yes. Their facilities were quite impressive.

Josie gave him a little smile and gave a little shrug, "Sure. Once you left here we would be taking you there one way or the other. Either you agree and we do a little orientation or we take you by force and have your mind wiped and plant false memories for the time we spoke." She stood up and and put her purse back on her shoulder. She grabbed the large envelope and the contract she had placed in front of him and started towards the door, "Come on, our ride is waiting."
