Jaden continued looking around as he threw things. Lighters were gone. Flashlights were gone. Even fingernail files were gone. Jaden couldn't think of anything that the two of them could do from their current position. Mao knocking the rack over did at least help coral the zombies a bit. He had successfully closed off a portion of the path. At least until the zombies crawl over or push the blockade.
Jaden had cleared most of the ground behind the counter now. He hadn't caused much delay in the oncoming horde, but five feet of clear floor was still not much help. "There's really only one way to find out," Jaden replied to the comment about a back door, "And that's to go check." That also meant that they either had to lose ground, or one of them had to stay and distract while the other checked on the back door situation.
Jaden would never let one of his friends be put in danger. He didn't use to have friends, and with the world gone to Hell, he very protective of his friends. "I'll stay here," he told Mao, "If nothing else, I can clear some room for us to hold them off until we come up with another plan." At least he hoped they could come up with another plan. He had to believe that everything would turn out alright.
