Who: Dawn and Camden
What: A walk in the park
When: Backdated, Saturday Oct. 20
Where: Washington Square Park
She wanted flowers for her birthday. It wasn't Saya's birthday, the second of November would come and go by like any other day, uneventful, mundane and not a word to it's significance. Dawn's drivers license marked today as the day to celebrate being alive, though it too went by without a mention to her co-workers and friends. Today was her day, even if she planned to spend most of it making money. That still didn't stop her from buying a small treat for herself. Dressed down in an off-white sweater dress, black leggings and ankle length boots, Dawn walked up to a corner flower shop not far from Washington Square Park. She idly roamed the aisles until she spotted a fresh crop of Moondust carnations, the dark violet hue the result of genetic engineering not unlike what made Dawn herself. The thought brought a wan smile to her lips as she watched the clerk wrap four of the carnations into a small tidy bouquet, adding wisps of baby's breath for an artistic touch. The final result brightened Dawn's mood, if only a little, as she left the shop with her gift in hand.
It was a nice day in the park, even the pungent scent of street meat being grilled added to the ambiance. She walked past the tourists, college students and weekend strollers to find a seat at the fountain, not far from where street performers were busking for change. Her attention was more enraptured on the petite flower arrangement in her hands than the entertainment, though occasionally her eyes would lift to look around the square. Her eyes where searching, sizing the people around her, but once concluded that there wasn't a suspicious, unfriendly, or familiar face amongst the crowd, she returned to her thoughts. One more gig to pay the bills, with hope of a second part-time job for more steady income, and maybe she'd have enough saved to buy a new set of climbing shoes for Christmas. That was, of course, if she could last in New York long enough to have a Christmas, but this was the life she meted out for herself.
As a human sized shadow blocked the sunlight from her flowers, Dawn canted her head in the source's direction, shielding her eyes with one hand to better see the person's face. "Yes?"
