Who: Macy and Presley
What: communicating from beyond
When: tonight
Where: Presley's bedroom

Macy wasn't quite sure of anything. It'd been like that for almost fifteen years. Sometimes she existed and wandered around, but most of the time she was nothing. It was hard to explain, and she didn't really like thinking about it. It wasn't something she could control and it definitely wasn't something she understood. It didn't matter though. Nothing mattered anymore. Nothing but her family, and everyone she left behind.

She'd taken to following them around-- when she wasn't nothing, anyways. It wasn't difficult to do. They didn't notice her. They barely looked in her direction, and when they did? They just looked right past her. Or through her. Whichever.

She watched Chris grow up. She watched Noah conceive a child-- several children. She watched everyone move off the island. She watched Noah get married. She watched Chris get involved in some uncouth things. She watched Noah conceive more children, and be a doting and loving father. And she watched him get hit by a car trying to save a girl. It was... well, it was something.

And still, she wasn't noticed. Not by the people that mattered. But she was noticed by a girl she didn't recognize. She was sure of it. So, Macy'd taken to following her around. She learned that her name was Presley. She learned that she had a brother, whom she also knew (through otherworldly ways) was Noah's biological son. It was fate. Maybe. But Macy needed to be sure she could be seen, and so never let Presley out of her sight.

It was that night, in her bedroom, after several weeks of tailing, that she finally spoke.

"You can see me." It was a matter-of-fact statement. Not a question.

See her? The woman had been following her for weeks. It wasn't until she started popping up in her home however, that Presley finally decided that she was dead. It was usually how things happened: ghosts would follow her until they were certain she'd seen them, and finally they'd pop up someplace she wouldn't expect a live person to and they'd have a conversation. Usually she couldn't tell otherwise. Sometimes, it was obvious, but mostly, ghosts just looked like people to her. And that was the scary part.

"Mhmm." Presley nodded, and set down this month's issue of Cosmo, "It's a gift. I'm Presley St. Peter."

"A gift," Macy repeated. She'd had one of those. "Are you from the Island, then?" She looked down at her own fingertips. They'd once emitted gold wherever she touched. They hadn't done that since she'd died, though. In fact, the last thing she'd turned gold were the two bullets embedded in her chest.

"Your brother. He's adopted." She was less subtle in her death.

She nodded again, "We all are. Adopted, I mean. And from the island." She tilted her head to the side a little and studied her face. It was one she'd seen before, not in life, but as a child in a photograph or something? Her memory was clear, but not precise. It only added to her loopy demeanor.

"Do you mean Sascha?" She didn't suppose they were talking about Dana, but who knew? Why she would be asking about either of them was odd to her.

Now it was Macy's turn to nod. "Sascha." It was the first time she'd ever spoken his name. Noah hadn't named him, of course. Noah didn't even know he existed. "I know who his father is. His biological father, I mean." She straightened out her apron. It was hard to be stuck in your work uniform for eternity. It looked so... tacky. There were stains on it that would never come out. Mustard. Mayonnaise. Blood.

"I'm Macy. Macy Jones. Can you see everyone like me?"

"You're not... His mother then, are you?" Wouldn't that be unfortunate. "Is he the one you want to speak to?" To the point. Everyone wanted to speak to someone. That was usually what they were there for.

Considering the uniform, Presley was pretty sure she Macy hadn't died at home peacefully in her sleep. But, blood could be... Catsup? Probably not, but that had been her first thought. Most people didn't like to talk about how they died, so she didn't ask.

"Nice to meet you." She gave a friendly grin, but since a handshake was sort of impossible, she didn't offer. "Mostly. I think. Sometimes it's hard to tell, but I think so."

"I'm not Sascha's mother. Nor do I want to speak to him. But I suppose I'd like to talk to his father, yes. Is that appropriate? Is that what we, uh... ghosts?... normally want?" She really had no idea why she'd been hanging around for as long as she was. Unfinished business? It bothered her that she'd never moved on. Though, Macy wasn't exactly sure where 'on' was, or if it even existed.

But perhaps, if she talked to Noah, it might rectify something, even if she had no idea what she was going to say.

"Nice to meet you, too."

"Usually." Presley gave another nod, "But I can probably arrange it. Does he live around here?" She immediately regretted the question, since in her experience, ghosts didn't always have a very good idea of where they were, spatially, but Macy seemed to be more coherent than most. It was easier that way, "Actually. Maybe it's easier if you tell me who we're looking for first. And why."

The why was important. She hated to do things if they were just to pester someone or to get revenge. It never worked out well. And while her gut told her it wouldn't be a problem, she did like a good story.

She hesitated. She wasn't sure where Noah lived. "I-I uh... don't know. His name is Noah Riley." She bit her lip. "He was my boyfriend, when I was.. you know. When I died."

Macy wasn't sure if it was appropriate to talk about it. This girl was still a child, right? "He struggled with it a bit. His sister... she's the one who did it."

Noah Riley. Where had she heard that name before? It wasn't too long ago she'd heard it.

"Is he the one who got hit by the car or whateve?" Sarah's friend Mooly had something to do with it, if she remembered correctly. "He's like... Old enough to be my dad. You must have been... How long ago did you... You know?" Kick the bucket. Even the nicer euphamisms for death weren't really nice. Pass on? What did that mean?

"His sister? Did you not get along?" It must have been really bad.

"He's old enough to be your brother's dad," she said, plainly. Because he was. "It was fifteen years ago, give or take. 2032, I believe. It was an accident. She didn't know what she was doing. They had her committed. I visited her a couple times. She gauged her eyes out and then killed herself."

"Well. Yes, of course. He couldn't be mine, I don't think anyway." She shrugged.

Sadly, she'd heard worse things than the sad tale of Bobby Riley. "It was kind of you to visit her." Presley said after a moment of silence, not sure what else could be said about it.

Macy shrugged. She had been a kind person when she was alive. It was hard to help the living now. She'd given up on it.

"So, how does it work? Do you know Noah?"

Presley shook her head. "No, I'll have to find him. It's the hardest part sometimes. Some people don't want to be found." But this time she had an idea of where to begin looking.

"Well, if he doesn't want to be found then that's fine. We can leave him alone. But if he wants to talk to me, then I would like to talk to him." She bit her lip and adjusted her apron once more. "How will you find me?" Was she expected to hang around some more? Or did this girl have another way to contact the dead.

"I will do my best to find him, and find out if he'd like to speak with you. I've gotten quite good at it." It was one of her favorite parts of the whole process, since it felt a little like detective work. Not her future career of choice, but exciting all the same.

She gave a shrug, "I'll just call you. It's a little like that Beetlejuice movie."

Macy nodded. That sounded pretty easy. "Alright. Thank you. I guess I'll be waiting for your call." She looked at the girl for a moment, before turning and walking out her bedroom door. After lingering in the hallway, she dissipated.
