Who: AC and Ghost!James!!!!
What: AC goes to college lmfao
Where: Borough of Manhattan Community College
When: Today
Rating: T for in the Trash?

"Thank you for taking out the trash, sir!"

AC sighed and watched as the group of college kids walked away from the trash bin laughing and joking. He was used to this. It really wasn't that big of a deal any more, except that he felt like he smelled like trash for days after regardless of the amount of showers he took. He honestly believed that if he didn't struggle, that if he made it seem as if he didn't care that they would just leave him alone. He was generally liked by most people, but it was also apparently funny to toss him into the garbage bin every once in a while.

Once he was sure that the coast was clear, he stood up and hopped out of the trash bin, just lightly dusting himself off from the stray banana peels and pieces of paper clinging to his jeans. It was embarrassing to say the least, and he would have to go home to face his parents about this once again. As he was about to make his way toward his car, AC noticed a silvery figure out by a patchy piece of grass. Slowly, so as to not scare it off, AC made his way over. His head tilted to the side casually, AC made eye contact with the spirit and tried his best to smile and give off a comforting, friendly sense.

"Hey there," he said with a wave. "I can see you." The ghost seemed to have just noticed him. He seemed to understand what AC was saying too. "Did you see what those punks did to me? Heh. Happens all the time actually." He grinned again.

"I'm Aaron. Everyone calls me AC. What's your name?"

James didn't know what had brought him there, but there he was. His gaze shifted across the campus, a small smirk forming at the thought of himself in college. Maybe he was destined to die young. The thought of him in college was a little laughable. What was he going to do, grow up and be a big career man? The thought of sitting in a cubicle made him want to vomit.

His gaze shifted over to a boy who looked more dirty than most and who smelled oddly like a dumpster as he approached. It was still strange to him when people took notice. He was used to having to make an effort to be seen, but every now and then these crazy mutants came along and talked to him like it was nothing special.

James' brows shot up at the notion of people throwing kids in dumpsters. Seriously? Well, at least that explained the smell. "I figured as much when you stared me down and waltzed over here to talk to empty space." His hands slid into his pockets as he looked the kid over. "I'm James." He looked about his age, maybe a little older since he was actually in college and James had never reached that far himself. "You should probably do something about that," he remarked. "Fuckheads like that will just keep doing it if you don't stand up for yourself."

AC raised his eyebrows curiously. It was rare to find a spirit who seemed almost comfortable as a spirit, or comfortable enough at least to be accepting of the fact that most living people would consider him to be "empty space". AC welcomed his honesty though. It felt almost normal, or as normal as talking to a spirit could be.

"Hi, James," AC said. He shrugged and just idlly dusted himself off. "It's kind of easier to just let it happen. Eventually they'll get bored and move on. I just didn't think it would happen in college, you know?" But of course, James couldn't know. He hadn't been alive for over a decade and didn't even look like he had been to college. With some spirits, AC could tell the amount of time (give or take) that they'd been dead. Something about the texture of their "skin" and the fading color of the aura that surrounded them.

"So James, how long have you been in the afterlife?"

James snorted. "You mean you're afraid to stand up to them," he replied, eyeing him. He couldn't quite figure out how kids got into this sort of position. When people had tried to pick on him or his sister, James had come out guns blazing. He might not have been the strongest kid in the world, and he might not have won every fight, but after the third busted lip people learned to just leave it alone.

"I don't know. What year is it?" How old was he supposed to be now? Somewhere in his 30's, right? "I'd say fifteen, maybe?"
