Who: Wes and Sascha What: online chatting, anonymously When: very recently
IM - xerox
xerox: hey, what’s up?
Orion: Nmu? Do you go to that chat a lot?
xerox: eh. when I’m bored. which I guess is often enough. you?
Orion: Today was my first time. New to this whole chat thing honestly. Where do you go?
xerox: like, to school?
Orion: Yeah. Youre in school right? I go to JFK in the Bronx.
xerox: haha - um, yes. i’m not some old person being creepy. i actually go to JFK too, believe it or not.
Orion: What a coincidence. R u sure you aren’t fucking with me?
xerox: believe me, I’m sure. i got transferred there this year.
Orion: Why’d you transfer?
xerox: to make a long story short, the kids there were dicks. and I skipped class too much, i guess.
Orion: That blows. Is it because youre
Orion: You know.
xerox: lol yes. I mean, they didn’t know for sure, but I guess it’s obvious or something.
Orion: You didnt try to hide it?
xerox: i mean, it’s not like I walk around with the word ‘homosexual’ painted across my chest & i never said I was, explicitly. but. not really.
Orion: Sorry I dont really know what to say. They didnt hurt you or anything, right?
xerox: haha it’s fine
xerox: eh. well, enough to get me transferred. but jfk’s better, i guess
xerox: why is it better? idk. i actually have friends
xerox: and ppl mostly leave me alone.
Orion: Do your friends know that youre gay?
xerox: idk. i haven’t come out to them. but they never ask me about girls or anything. do your friends know you are?
Orion: No. I have a girlfriend.
[a minute or so later]
xerox: does she know?
xerox: man, that’s tough.
Orion: I cant tell anyone. My parents are these super religious people. They dont picket or whatever, but I wouldnt be surprised if they did.
Orion: But Im not even really... sure. I dont know.
[also a minute later]
Orion: Maybe I am. I dont know.
xerox: i’m sorry. It’s not a fun thing to try & figure out that’s for sure. even less so in your case.
Orion: I cant even imagine telling my parents. Or what theyd do if they found out without me telling them.
Orion: Although my sister is doing some unscrupulous things (in their eyes) so they might be too distracted to even notice what I do. Not that theyd be suspicious anyways. (The girlfriend thing. They love her.)
xerox: i haven’t told mine yet either, but i don’t think they’d care.
xerox: unscrupulous things? like what?
xerox: I mean, if you want to tell me. which you don’t have to. obviously.
Orion: She doesnt know I know, I dont think. But theres a rumor going around that shes dating a guy my parents wouldnt approve of. And I know she hasnt told them yet.
xerox: ah. i have a friend who’s parents are that way. i can’t even imagine. i think I would go crazy.
Orion: Yeah. Its fucking stupid. Theyre against like, us dating outside our religion, which is stupid. Because its not like theres a shit ton of Catholics hanging around anymore. And theyre really against other dumb shit things that they expect us to agree with. I dont know about my sister or little brother, but I think theyre batshit.
xerox: it’s times like these i’m glad my parents view their children as people w/ opinions and stuff.
Orion: Yeah. Not mine. I cant even imagine what theyd do if I brought home one of those mutant kids. I dont have a problem with them but my parents are super against it. They actually DO picket that stuff.
Orion: Which is dumb cause its not like it was their choice. But my parents dont get that.
xerox: it is dumb - I agree with you on that. I don’t see the point in being prejudiced against anyone about much, other than them being an asshole - which is *likely* a choice.
xerox: i should probably mention now that I am one of those mutant kids
Orion: I didnt mean anything. Im cool with it. I was just
Orion: Fuck. Sorry. I dont know whats worse. Being gay or being a mutant.
xerox: i like to think that they’re not bad things, so neither can be worse than the other
xerox: but no worries.
Orion: I meant in my parents eyes. But yeah. Sorry.
Orion: Whats your power? You dont have to tell me if you dont want to.
xerox: ohhh, well then. i have a feeling that being a gay mutant is at the bottom of the ‘good things’ list
xerox: hm, check out my sn.
xerox: hint. i can’t make free copies of things like papers or pictures.
Orion: Im not good at figuring out puzzles.
xerox: the name for the power that’s on my ID is duplication. so, like, i can make copies of myself?
xerox: i’m not very good at it yet
Orion: Thats pretty fucking awesome. How many can you make so far? At once I mean.
xerox: the most ever was three. closer to two and a half, but that makes it sound creepy
xerox: i’m just not good at keeping them around for more than a minute, which makes it pretty much useless
xerox: the day I figure it out though is the last day I go to class.
Orion: Good plan. Can you make copies of other people, because I dont really enjyo class either.
Orion: Fuck. Enjoy.
xerox: haha not that i know of
xerox: you don’t have a twin to switch places with you, do you?
Orion: Nope. No twin. Just a little sister and a little brother.
Orion: I dont think theyd want to switch places with me anyways.
xerox: why not?
Orion: They arent very manly? My sister is a klutz and Ive got to be agile and quick. And my little brother is only 13.
xerox: ah, well, i can’t send a duplicate to stand in for you either then. i am none of those things - besides maybe a klutz.
Orion: You cant be worse than my sister. She trips her way through life.
xerox: i’m not that bad. though I know someone like that - and am glad i’m not her. I don’t think i could recover that well.
Orion: Yeah. I think she met her new
Orion has signed off. xerox: :|
