Carter followed the nurse back and was about to go to Abby when the doctor stopped him. He didn't give him a chance to talk,
"How is she?"
"Your wife and the baby are doing just fine. We stopped the bleeding, my best guess would be that your wife suffered a placenta abruption. It's when the placenta separates from the uterine wall prematurely. We gave her a mild sedative, her stress was not helping the baby," Carter nodded and looked over to Abby resting in the room, "We'd like to keep her overnight for observation. If everything looks okay you can take her home tomorrow, but she will need to stay on strict bed rest until the baby is ready to be born. But your wife is doing just fine and we did an ultrasound and she is doing just fine as well." Carter froze at that statement and turned his eyes away from Abby to meet the doctor's eyes,
"She? We're having a baby girl?" Carter beamed and looked back at Abby practically giddy with the idea. As soon as the doctor walked away Carter made his way into the room. He took a seat in the chair next to Abby and took one of her hands in both of his. He pressed his lips to her fingers, while he let one hand brush her hair out of her face.
