Mikey laughed and went to give his uncle a high five. "I'm six! Seis!"
Mari had this thing where every time a number was mentioned somewhere in one language she would ask for the number in the other language. So, Mikey was trained to say his numbers both in English and in Spanish, just in case his Uncle Nico didn't know one or the other. Though Mari was sure English would be sufficient, even if she had taught a Spanish class or two that he may or may not have attended. "How are you, Nico? I hope my big, Cuban frame didn't do you too much damage."
She had to admit that she too was relieved to see him. She hadn't considered anyone she knew bumping into her, but of all the possible strangers and family members around, it was nice to see that it was him. "Mikey, are you going to tell him all about the zoo? Where's your zebra?" It was this stuffed toy that took Mari and Mikey nearly two hours to win. And then, they only got it cause the man running the booth felt bad for their constant failing.
