Alfie suddenly felt a bit better about today. He wasn't sure what it was, but he managed to sit up a bit straighter. The pain in his hand was still there, but it had dulled slightly under this new wave of confidence. "Vanilla latte. Coming right up." He stood and grinned at her before heading over toward the counter. Even his stride seemed more decisive as he walked over to snatch a few napkins and just wrap them around his hand.
The line wasn't long, though he noticed a woman walking away from the counter with a holder full of coffees while trying to pull out her car keys from her purse or something. "Let me help you with that, ma'am," he said to her and just reached out with one hand to grab the cupholder for her. The woman smiled at him and finally pulled out her keys before thanking him. "No problem," he said with a little wave and then went on to order his coffees.
By the time he returned to Gemma, Alfie was all smiles, feeling entirely better about himself and not quite as nervous, which in turn meant, he wasn't quite as clumsy either. He carefully placed the latte in front of her before sitting down. "I'm glad you came," he said with a grin.
