As exciting as most people expected photoshoots to be, they were actually a lot of hard work. It could be extremely annoying having to hold a pose for five minutes if the director wanted it or if the cameraman wasn't skilled enough. Or even to shift a fraction of an inch of a muscle to the side to get that "perfect shot". Sasha came to realize long ago that there was no such thing as the "perfect shot" but that every single photographer out there strove to attain it.
Today's shoot was kind of annoying, especially when she was having to hurry up the photogs so she would be able to pick up her daughter from the day care. Shay had been wanting to go see the school where her cousins attended. And who was Sasha to deny her only daughter of such a pleasure? Then, the photographers had other ideas of sticking her in a freezing water fountain in nothing but a tiny bikini and some metallic bracelets. Sasha wasn't even sure what they were trying to advertise: the bracelets or half her boobs showing.
She was beyond thrilled when she was able to put on some decent clothes and picked up her daughter from day care. It wasn't far from the school, and Shay had busied herself on the way by playing with a little doll that moved her legs and arms in a way that made the little girl giggle on and on. She had played with it so much that by the time they arrived at the school, the batteries had given out. Luckily, Sasha always had extra batteries that she carried with her for just such a travesty.
They had been walking through the school when it happened. Sasha pulled the battery out of her purse, holding it by both ends with her fingers and was suddenly pulled against the nearest locker by the bracelets on her arm. She gasped as she hit the lockers hard, so much that the noise scared Shay and Sasha was sure she had at the very least crushed some important bones in her wrist. What was worse, she couldn't pull away from the locker, couldn't unstick her fingers from the battery. Ah, the perils of being a human magnet. All the while, Shay was crying on the floor wondering what the heck was happening to her mother.
The pain in her wrist was excruciating to the point that she couldn't focus long enough to attempt to reverse the electromagnetism she had inadvertently created. "Shay... It's okay. Mami's okay." She just wished Nico was here. At least he would be able to take Shay while she figured out what the hell to do. "Shay, llama a Papi." She nodded to her purse where her cell phone was. She hoped the little girl could understand enough to call Nico. In the meantime, she hoped someone would come around to try and help her.
