"Mama, I'm bored."
Nora had been standing in front of the apples for a few minutes now as she tried to decide which looked like the best ones. She had gotten awfully busy during the week and wasn't able to do any grocery shopping until today. As it was, she knew she had to make it back home in time to put away the groceries, shower and get Lucas cleaned up before heading out to Spencer's birthday party. This would go a lot faster if her mind wasn't so preoccupied with the things she had to do later in the day and would just focus on the apples in front of her. "Give mommy five more minutes, and we'll be home soon."
Lucas sighed and just sauntered over to the cucumbers. Nora picked out a few crisp apples and tossed them into a plastic bag before sliding on over to the pears. These seemed to be in better condition, and it wasn't long before Nora had a decent quantity of pears in her bag. Just as she was about to put these into her cart, a flying banana came whirling at her, and she only just missed it by ducking. That's when she saw it. Lucas was throwing cucumbers at another child, who was throwing bananas back at Lucas.
"LUCAS!"
She left the bags in her cart and marched right over there, grabbing Lucas by the arm just in time to pull him away from the path of an incoming banana. The boy was in a fit of giggles. "Lucas, what on earth are you doing? These are not toys!" Something like this would have never happened with her girls, but then, boys and girls were very different growing up. She glanced over and saw that the parent of the child was coming over. Oh dear... This was not going to be pretty.
