"Hi, Miss Jodie," Brooke said to the little girl and just grinned at her. Brooke's jacket wasn't big enough for Rufus to hide out and eat his ice cream too. He had to pop out of it whenever he wanted to take a bite. At the sight of the other little girl, Rufus paused, just watching her every move. His eyes darted between her and her mother.
"Hi," he said shyly. Color trickled into his cheeks as he attempted to hide behind his ice cream cup.
Brooke just shrugged and continued to eat her own ice cream. "It takes him a while to get used to new people. But he's really very nice, aren't you, babes?"
Rufus nodded and then pressed his head against her. Brooke chuckled. "So... how are JJ and... the Silvermans?" Just the thought of the Silvermans again gave Brooke that same awkward feeling in her stomach. She wasn't so sure about this ice cream anymore.
