Valerie didn't want to get involved in adult conversations. She barely liked getting involved in conversations with kids her own age, because somehow they usually ended up in some sort of a fight. Exhibit A: Cori Tibbits. Exhibit B: Three bloody-nosed boys in the principal's office. And most of the time, when she wasn't protecting her, she also fought with her little sister. It seemed like the only person Valerie wasn't constantly in fight with was Jordan Sullivan. She had been watching the interaction between Mrs. Sullivan and her mom though, and she wasn't all too sure if she liked what she was seeing.
"What did Mrs. Sullivan say, Mommy?" she asked as she hopped off the chair and followed her mother out the door of the office. She couldn't read her mother's expression on her face, but it didn't look very good. "Why is Daddy coming to pick me up? Am I in trouble again? Suspended?" She frowned. Despite not getting along with most kids, Valerie actually liked being in school. It was sort of like an adventure for her every day as she came up with ways to get into the air vents. Er... she wasn't supposed to be doing that anymore, was she?
