Mal was only mildly impressed to see Mari walk off to find her the wine she had requested. Maybe she was perfect after all. She smiled to control her gag reflex. "I'm sure he's very intelligent. Just like his father." She glanced at AJ again before casually strolling around the place. She wondered if they had a place where they kept family pictures in neat little frames. She wondered if she was in any of those pictures. Why would she be though? It wasn't like she was ever really welcomed around here, or at least she never felt that way, heaven only knows why.
She paused by the window and just looked outside longingly. She had no desire to leave this place despite her annoyance about how perfect everything was. They even had a nice view from their window. Her arms closed around her and she leaned the weight of her body on one side. Could she even possibly exist in a world like this? Married with a husband and a child? No. It was impossible. Besides, she ruined happiness everywhere she went like a plague. "How've you been?" she asked quietly to the only other person left in the room.
