Who: Eden & Mary-Beth
What: Eden returns to beg Mary-Beth for a tattoo again
When: Saturday, May 19th, late afternoon
Where: Tattoo parlor
Rating: Medium

After she got the positive feedback on Corporate Lobotomy bear she started on her way to the tattoo parlor where Mary-Beth Allen worked. She was the coolest adult, when Eden was around her she felt like she was looking into a mirror of her future. However, her future would be rocking all night with her band and being rich and famous but still her. No way were they going to sell out. She had the photo of the bear folded up in her purse, now Mary-Beth would have to see how serious she was about getting a tattoo...it wasn't just a spur of the moment thing. She had a picture of what she wanted and she knew where she wanted it. She knew how long it would take to heal and how to help it heal. She was prepared. Sure she was underage but no way in hell was she going to ask her parents. They were okay with her hair and clothes because those she could 'grow out of,' as the put it. A tattoo was a serious permanent thing and no way would they be okay with that.

Eden saw the store in front of her and her grin widened, this was it. No way could she say no. She peeked her head in and saw that Mary-Beth was working and...it didn't look like her husband was around. Score! Now MB's hubby was cool but it was his business and he wouldn't want to risk getting a bad rep by allowing an underage girl get tatted. But not all girls were Eden, she wouldn't regret it. She knew. She thought long and hard about what she wanted and she knew she wanted it to be about her band, but the name was too long. That is why she decided that they needed a logo. When she found Corporate Lobotomy Bear it was if a light shone from the image and the angel chorus sang. But think on that later. She pulled the photo out of her purse and unfolded it,

"Hey, MB, don't you think this would look so cool inked on my shoulder blade?"

Mary-Beth tapped her feet along to the music that was echoing through out the shop as she moved around the shop, restocking ink and cleaning up. There was one artist in the back room, working on a drawing or perhaps taking a nap. Either way, she was the only one out front. It was a slow day, thank G-d. It gave her time to think of things to do with her kids this weekend and to work on a stack of drawings she needed to work on for customers.

She was in the middle of singing along to a really old Beatles song when the door jingled and someone walked in. Mary-Beth looked up from the spot she was sweeping and grinned when her eyes fell on Eden. The girl had been trying to sweet talk her way into getting a tattoo out of Mary-Beth for her and her friends for a while now. No way was she tattooing them! She could get in huge trouble and the last thing she wanted were her parents coming down to the shop to yell at her and J.J. No thank you!

Mary-Beth smirked and made her way over to the front desk, barefoot and with her skirt jingling as the metal pattern on the fringe clinked against one another. She crossed her arms across her chest and stared at the girl, like she usually stared at her kids when they knew they had done something wrong and were trying to finagle their way out of it with a crafty lie. "Eden," she half-greeted, half questioned. "What did I tell you last week?"

Mary-Beth reached out and took the drawing from her, reluctantly opening it up to at least give Eden the benefit of the doubt and see what it was. "What is it?"

Eden pouted at Mary-Beth's look. It was a scolding look but honestly she wasn't ten. She kept holding out the picture and just as expected she sparked her interest and she handed the paper over.

"I like to call it the Corporate Lobotomy Bear. You know since my band is called Corporate Lobotomy we decided we wanted that to be our logo since you know we need a logo to do merchandise and be remembered and such," she grinned, "we'll be the band with the fucked up looking bear! Come on MB, I know I'm not eighteen but no one needs to know. I won't tell my parents, I promise. Like the only people who will see it will be my band mates." She leaned back against the counter, "Also it's in a place that I can easily hide and if necessary I can cover it with make up if I'm around my parents or teachers. And if I'm caught I can say it's a wash off...like they're gonna check. Come on MB...please!"

Mary-Beth eyed the drawing. It looked a lot like the bear from the Grateful Dead. She started shaking her head immediately at the girl. She didn't want to do this tattoo. "Eden," she pleaded. "I can't do this. It looks like the Grateful Dead bear. I can't rip off another band's idea."

She handed the paper back over to the girl. "No." She turned and started sweeping around the store again. "I'm not ripping off some other artist's work. Work it into a design, and maybe I'll consider it." Mary-Beth looked over at the girl. She looked like a younger version of herself with her dyed hair and rocker look. She wanted to give the girl a tattoo so bad but what if someone had given her kids tattoos without her consent? She'd be madder than a hatter.

"You still need your parents permission. And there's no such thing as being able to get a tattoo in a place that you can easily hide. You put on a bathing suit, and everything's visible unless you get it on your tit or butt cheek. And there is no way I'm going there. Or on the other side of your posterior." Mary-Beth shook her head and turned to keep sweeping, hoping that Eden would take a hint and find some other tattoo artist to try and coax into doing her bidding.

Eden looked at the picture, "It looks nothing like the Grateful Dead bear. That bear had better proportions, also it had that weird neck thing. Also it had little fur accents around it. And it was naked. This one has a bigger head and is wearing a suit. This one looks all clean cut, like a victim of the corporate society turning an adorable little teddy bear into one of their mindless slaves."

Eden wouldn't take no for an answer, Mary-Beth should know that by now. "Also it's not ripping of Grateful Dead anyway, unless no one else can use a bear in their logo. And don't give me bull about ripping of some other artist's work, like you aren't doing that when someone wants Kermit or Bugs Bunny," she put her hands on her hips, "you want a design fine." She pulled a pen from her bag and scribbled something in the bears hand. Eden was no artist but one could tell it was a guitar as if the bear was dragging it on the ground. Holding it up she pointed to what she did, "look okay it's changed a bit. The bear now has a story, it was a rocker but corporation took it over so now it is a business man and the guitar is now forgotten but still connected to him."

Eden huffed at the same old line, "My parents would never agree to it that is why I'm not asking them. And anyway when would I be wearing a bathing suit. I'm not really an outdoorsy person. Sun equals cancer and chlorine and salt water is really bad for hair especially colored hair, you know that better than anyone. And it's on my shoulder blade. The only time people would see it is if I was wearing one of my racer back shirts or a tank top. And I always wear a hoodie over them or on those days I can cover it up with concealer, come on MB. You were my age once...I'm positive about this, I read everything you can read about how to take care of it once it heals. I'm prepared, please."

Mary-Beth gave Eden another stern look when she started to argue with her about whether the bear looked like the Grateful Dead bear. This girl really had no limits. "No matter how much symbolism is in that little bear, you're not getting me to stamp it on your body."

Putting Kermit or Bugs Bunny on someone's posterior wasn't stealing or ripping someone else off. The drawings were always her own rendition of something else someone wanted that was similar. Mary-Beth looked over at what Eden was doing and wrapped her hands around the top of the broom handle, waiting for the girl to finish. She looked at what Eden had done to the bear and sighed, taking a seat at one of the closest stations on a stool. "You're an insistent little thing."

Mary-Beth started spinning around on the stool idly, trying to possibly annoy Eden at how she was seemingly paying little attention to the girl having a hissy fit in her store. "I was your age once but I certainly wasn't getting tattoos. I was doing normal things that I was legal to do. Like dying my hair and putting on tattoos with sponges."

Mary-Beth tried to pout a little. "Why me? Ask J.J. when he gets in today. He'll be here in a little bit!" Mary-Beth perked up and smiled at the thought of her husband coming in. He had said that he might stop by today but she wasn't about to bet money on it.

When Mary-Beth said she was insistent Eden smiled and gave a little shrug, "It's all part of my charm." If she thought spinning around on the stool would annoy her then she had no idea how determined she was. She crossed her arms,

"I've been dying my hair since I was twelve and putting on tattoos with sponges, please, like I want a cartoon witch on my arm. You know what I am legal to do...get piercings. If I just wanted to do something to rebel or piss of my parents I'd get my nipple pierced or some shit like that. I want a tattoo because I want a tattoo I want this tattoo. It's for my band, my dream, this will be a reminder of that dream." Eden knew she was laying it on thick, but while she would normally never say that stuff, in her mind she was saying it all the time, she just never planned to say it outloud.

Eden smiled when she asked why her, "I want you because this is going to be my first tattoo and I want it done by the best. And while your husband is chill, I trust you, you're my friend whether you want to admit it or not that is how I see you. I think trust is a big factor in this don't you think?"

"Charm," Mary-Beth echoed, chuckling a little at the girl. "That's one word for it, I suppose." Eden was just like Mary-Beth when she was younger but Mary-Beth at least didn't drag adults into her shenanigans.

Mary-Beth smiled and perked up when Eden mentioned nipple piercings. "Do you want a nipple piercing? Those are fun. I can go get it all set up for you if you'd rather that instead?" She could at least try to talk the girl into something other than a tattoo. A piercing was somethings he could take out and let heal if she ended up not liking it. A tattoo at such a young age was just a bad idea, unless it was something like a memorial to someone you'd lost. "Dreams come and go, doll. And so do bands. You'll thank me some day for not putting that little bear on your butt cheek."

Mary-Beth blushed a little when Eden told her she was the best. She had talent, but she wasn't the best. If she was the best, she would have been recognized by an art collector or someone in the art world. No, Mary-Beth was just your average Joe who was handy with a paint brush and tattoo gun. "Trust is a big factor in this. But so are your parents. I wouldn't be very happy if my kids were your age and they came home with some messed up little teddy bear on their shoulder."

Eden's face screwed up when Mary-Beth started saying she could set her up for the nipple piercing, "No! Those are just so gross and I want something that I can show my guys and the fans can see and yeah no matter how much I love my guys no way am I flashing them or the crowd at our concerts. Also a nipple piercing wouldn't represent Corporate Lobotomy at all, just strangeness." She crossed her arms over her chest and pursed her lips in contained anger at her comments about her band and her dream coming and going.

"My band making it big is my dream MB, and I practice almost all the time to make sure it happens. We want to make it to the big time, all of us, together. Jack's dad flipped out when he told them, but at least his mom and sister are supportive. My parents pretend to be supportive but that's because they still are stuck to the idea that this is just a phase and one day I'll stop dying my hair and go back to Temple. Then I'll marry Toby and pop out a couple of kids then force them into a life they don't well just like they are doing to me. This is my dream and even if we don't make it I'd like a tattoo to remind me of one of the best times in my life and that is what it is, when I'm up on stage or at practice I feel like I'm really myself, I'm the happiest I can ever remember being." She flashed out of her sappy little speech, "and I didn't want it on my butt cheek I wanted it on my shoulder. And it wouldn't be massive like, two to three inches tall."

Eden's smile widened when she saw Mary-Beth blush...she was crumbling slowly but surely she was winning her over. "My parent's don't support me, not really, I just told you them want me to come back to the faith to be submissive little house wife who's only job is cooking and popping out babies. And anyway your kids would want you and JJ to do it if they wanted one. And it's more than just a messed up teddy bear, it's my band, my one true love. Come on MB...I won't tell a soul and I told you I could cover it up when necessary."

Mary-Beth started giggling when she saw the look on Eden's face and listened to her protest getting a nipple piercing. "I'm sure they'd love it if you showed them a nipple piercing. It might boost you to the cover of a magazine, pulling a stunt like that." She paused for a minute and considered it. "Don't flash the crowd though. ...but really, they're pretty fun." Mary-Beth grinned and shimmied a little as if to try and suggest that Eden get her nipples pierced. She had hers done at one point before she got pregnant, but after Nikki was born, they were too sore and she needed to breastfeed anyways.

"I practice drawing all of the time too, ya know." Mary-Beth didn't want to be the one to crush the girl's dreams but someone had to be realistic. M-B grabbed her phone out of her back pocket and started to text her husband. She couldn't keep a poker face for much longer with Eden, before she'd have to just flat out start ignoring the girl and that would kill her. "Go back to Temple," Mary-Beth said, without any tone in her voice, entranced in the texts between her and JJ. She ignored pretty much the rest of Eden's speech and when she finally tuned back into the conversation, she had only caught onto the last few sentences about getting the tattoo on her buttcheek. Mary-Beth just rolled her eyes instead of saying anything back.

"What's so wrong with being a housewife and having babies? I do that sometimes," Mary-Beth winked at Eden. It probably wasn't going to help the situation one bit but it was kind of true when she wasn't working at the shop. "You think I would give my own kids a tattoo before it's legal? I might as well beat them when they paint on my walls then too since it'd have the same legal consequences!"

Mary-Beth quickly texted her husband back before spinning around a few more times in the chair silently. "Show me how good you are at covering up a tattoo." She rolled her chair over to the station she usually inked people at and grabbed her purse, tossing it to Eden. Which tattoo of hers should she try to cover up? There were a bunch to choose from and the hardest one to cover up was probably the one under her tits because it was thick lettering and pure black, but she wasn't about to get locked up for showing a minor her boobs if Eden decided to pull a fast one. So while Eden rummaged through her bag for make up, Mary-Beth texted J.J. again and then pulled up the back of her shirt, to show off a large, colorful floral tattoo going down her left side.
