Evan opened his eyes. He was still in his apartment. That much he expected. But. The blinds were back in place. The sheets didn't smell moldy and musty. It was certainly warmer than it had been all week. Oh, and there was a solid body laying next to him. Quickly, but quietly, he rolled over. Natalie. His loving girlfriend, whom he missed very much. In that moment, everything about her seemed perfect. Her nose, her slightly open mouth, her messy hair. Everything.
He wanted to shake her awake and tell her what she missed. He wasn't sure if he'd been gone a day, just overnight, or the entire week. He figured shaking her until she woke up would be an insensitive thing to do, especially if she wasn't expecting him back quite so soon, or if she hadn't even noticed him missing in the first place. Instead, he poked her hard in the side until he noticed her eyes start to flutter open.
