Seth followed Gabby's hand to stroke Daniel's hair. That was when he remembered. A telepath...his power had manifested just last week. Although he hated to think it he was proud of his son...he knew he'd be a powerful asset in the future. After so many years it was hard for him to turn Cobra off and just be Seth. Just be a husband and father to Daniel. He wished he could just be Seth all the time. But they were at war and he was their leader. Everyone looked to him on what to do and he knew they'd all be looking at him now. They would want to know what went wrong, why their usual easy snatch and grab turned out so wrong. Why they lost so many that day.
Seth followed Gabby's nod and went over to the injured. He could hear Viper or he guessed Mandy barking orders. Viper or Morgan let Mandy out whenever tending the injured. Mandy had a more gentle touch and a better bedside manner than Morgan did. He wouldn't be surprised that if Morgan had her way she would have left them out there to die or be captured. But Seth was in charge and they left no one behind...not even the bodies...they were given proper burials and were remembered.
Seth helped hold up the bodies of one of the younger kids. He hated that these things were done to them. If their parents had just never done this stupid experiment...they would all be living normal lives. He could just be a husband and father and this kid would be starting his life in whatever field he had chosen. Not fighting for his life. In a low voice he spoke to Gabby,
"It was a trap Gabby, they made that information easy to find. They knew that we would resist the chance to get a more practiced precog." They had one but the child was only thirteen and her visions caused such a violent reaction they usually tried to keep her somewhat sedated so they never really got told the visions she had. Someone who had been having visions longer probably had a technique and could possibly teach her how to use it. And could probably warn them of things like this happening again.
"We lost seven." The number didn't sound like a lot until someone knew that their teams were usually made up of only twenty people. "Our chloro-telekinetic, photokinetic, we lost one of our teleporters, the duplicator, that girl who had nerve manipulation, our empath, and that boy with cloaking. He was the reason the most of us got away...he sacrificed himself," he set the boy back down on the bed and he ran a hand through his hair, "our remaining teleporter got the body back. He deserves to be honored for his sacrifice." He needed a moment away from the bodies and went out into the hallway and leaned his head against the wall.
