Who: Ari and OPEN What: Paging Nurse Silverman... Where: Hospital When: Wednesday March 14th, 6pm Rating: Low/Really sad
Today had been a doozey. One of the younger scientists had just come in and given birth to her third child, an elderly man had from a heart attack around noon, and a five year old child was about to come out of bowel resection surgery. She didn't usually believe in superstitious things but apparently things did tend to go a little batty at the hospital when it was getting to be the time of the month when the full moon was out. Ari almost wished that she had taken the easy route and just gone to the elementary school or high school to be the school nurse. At least then she would have just needed to patch up scrapes and give kids ice packs, rather than scrub in on surgeries and deal with a variety of patients.
Ari straightened the silky scarf that she had wrapped her hair in that day as she walked down the hallway to the nursery with the newborn in a rolling crib. The baby had already been in the room with the parents for a solid 12 hours and the parents had asked to have the baby put somewhere it'd be possible for him to sleep. So Ari wheeled the little guy down to the nursery and looked at him periodically as he cooed and moved around slightly. When she finally got to the nursery and put him in the open spot, she looked at him lovingly. The baby almost looked like her son Aaron when he was first born.
Ari lovingly stroked the baby's cheek and looked down at him, flashbacks repeatedly coming to memory the longer she looked at him. Eventually the tears started to run down her cheeks and she pulled herself away from the baby, going over to the nurse's station that was in a corner of the room and taking a seat. She wiped away the tears and prayed that no one would see her in the state that she was but no matter how fast she wiped away the tears, more quickly took their place.
