Jacen's mind was truly a wonder. How he could remember things that happened months or years ago as if they had occurred only minutes ago was a modern marvel of science. Though it had its drawbacks, such as overusing his brain so much that it would cause the occasional nosebleed, Jacen's ability was extremely helpful in school as well as life in general. And then there were those times he would have preferred to forget: his fight with Josie, the endless days with Penny's illness and watching Annie suffer right along with her. It was enough to drive anyone crazy.
However, in the midst of all this, there were usually little beacons of light that would shine through, bringing with them tiny pieces of hope. Little conversations and promises of better days. These were the tiny things that Jacen held onto most dearly.
When he picked up Annie that random Tuesday night, Jacen replayed the events that led them to getting together. If it was Josie's intent to keep them apart, then her actions had only served to do just the opposite. The night air was biting cold as was customary for this time of the year, but Jacen had it all worked out. No one would be cold tonight, not if he could help it. And since it was a school night for everyone involved, it would be a quickie.
He drove them up to the beach and just parked the car along one of the dunes. He turned off the lights and sent them into pitch black darkness. "So... you remember when you said you wanted to go for a drive after Alex and Olivia's wedding, look at the stars. Maybe turn up the car radio really loud so we could get a dance in even if I do occasionally step on your feet? Well..." He turned up the car radio and just grinned at her.
