Samuel scratched the back of his head and tossed his pen onto his desk. He was frustrated. There was never a dull moment on the island. It couldn't just be a normal American town where the kids went to and from school with no issues. But then again, that wasn't your average American town so he supposed this was all supposed to be happening. Really though, what town dealt with everything that Frye Island had dealt with? Mysterious deaths, teenage pregnancies, teenagers wanting to always run away off the island... Why couldn't things be quiet for a month?
As Samuel rubbed his eyes, the school bell rang. He eyed the clock in his office and realized that classes were finally over for the day. Like the students must be doing, Samuel jumped up out of his chair and threw on his coat and bundled up. He had meetings to go in a little bit and detentions to monitor but they could wait. His sanity was more important. "I'll be back in about a half hour, maybe a little more," he called out to the woman at the front desk who somewhat ignored him and just nodded.
Samuel started walking around town. He didn't know where he was heading. The beach probably would have been the best place to go to clear his head before jumping back into his work but it was too cold. So he kept walking. A few cars rolled by and honked at him, prompting him to wave back. "Probably students," he muttered to himself. Everyone was inside or in a car except for him. And someone else walking. He could tell it was woman because of the hair, and that she was fairly large.
...or pregnant. As he got closer, Samuel knew who it was right away. He had never seen the girl in his office because she was so smart and stayed out of trouble but he knew who she was. You'd be hard pressed to find someone on the island who didn't know who she was - even among all of the students. "Hello, Ms. Ramsey," he called out to her in a friendly tone as he approached her. Hopefully she wouldn't try running in the opposite direction as he really meant her no harm.
