WHO: Grace and Carter
WHAT: Talk about his love life problems
WHERE: Carter's house
WHEN: Friday after school (backdated)
RATING: Low (or Medium)
STATUS: In progress

Grace rolled up to Carter's house on her bike then got off and pulled it to the side of the house to lock it up. After securing the lock, she walked to the front door and rang the doorbell. She started to think about why Carter invited her as she waited for the door to open. She was certainly curious what he had in mind to fix his little problem. She wasn't sure why it was so important that they had to meet to actually talk about it and not just tell her over the phone but Carter was her best friend and she wanted to help him so she figured she would humor him. Carter always did have some pretty interesting ideas so she was sure that she would at least be a little amused by his idea.

Every since Carter got home from school he had been pacing around the living room trying to figure out how to ask Grace what he wanted to ask without weirding her out or anything. Everything he tried ended up sounding like he didn't view her as a girl or that he really viewed her as a girl...neither which would turn out well for him. Maybe he could ease her into it...maybe ask her opinion on that song her wrote during his mad song writing time during NSH. Sure that wasn't leading into it...also what if she hated it...what if she thought it was awful...then asking her would be even weirder.

The ringing of the doorbell shocked Carter out of his thoughts and he gave a little surprised yell. He then took a deep breath and ran a hand through his already tousled bed head hair that he always rocked. He opened the door and trying not to show his nervousness said,

"Hey Gracie, come on in." He stepped aside so she could enter and bounced on the balls of his feet unconsciously in excitement and nervousness.

She critically glanced him over as she moved into the house without saying a word. There was something about him today that seemed out of place. He seemed himself but then there was something different about him. She didn't want to make a big deal out of it so she tried to push it out of her mind. Grace leaned against a wall with her hands behind her back, watching him as he closed the door. "So... what is this plan of yours that you had to tell me in person?"

Carter had started his way over the the couch but stopped suddenly and turned back to Grace who was leaning against a wall. As if she was going to bolt any second. He really needed her to give him a chance to explain, so she wouldn't get the wrong idea. Maybe start out small.

"Well, I'll get to that in a sec, first I actually want your opinion on this song I wrote. It's not for TFT, but I like it. I wrote it after our talk, it makes me feel better about not having a girlfriend yet." He patted the back of the couch as he went off to his room, "Go ahead and sit down while I grab my laptop, it has the music on there."

Carter wandered into his room and unplugged it carrying it into the living room setting it on the coffee table, "Go ahead and grab a soda or whatever, you know if you want, I'll set this up."

Grace pushed off the wall and headed into the living room as he took off to his room. She smiled and asked with genuine surprise when he mentioned a song, "Since when do you write music?" For as long as she could remember, he always had help to do the music for his films from Penny, Annie, or whoever but must not have realized that he was interested in writing music himself. Had he been keeping his little talent a secret from her or was she just oblivious and not notice?

She sat down on the couch and made herself comfortable as he came back in, "I'm ok. Thanks Carter." To be honest, she was anxious about this meeting they were having and wanted to know what was on his mind but she knew to be patient and wait.

Carter opened up the file holding the music file and the document with the lyrics. Although he wrote it one of the college kids had helped him with the timing. He smiled over at Grace,

"Okay, it's called Haven't Met You Yet. Also I only had a few short lessons so be gentle with my voice." He laughed a little then cleared his throat. He hit the play button and the piano recording started and he started to sing.

The whole time he didn't glance over at Gracie in case she hated it. Once done he cautiously looked over at her, "So...what do you think?"

She leaned back in her seat and tried to keep an open mind as Carter started singing. This was probably one of the first times she'd heard him do this when they weren't joking around or listening to a song they both loved. He didn't sound too bad. He obviously wasn't a professional but he wasn't horrible either, and the song was kind of sweet. She liked it a lot. She was almost jealous of the apparent amount of talent he had, like he kept it bottled up somewhere and didn't share it with anyone else.

Grace grinned, "It was really cute. I liked it. Very nice." She paused a moment to think and then raised an eyebrow, "So your idea isn't to up to random girls and sing, is it?" She really hoped it wasn't because she knew girls that probably wouldn't have been as kind as she just was and they also might have gotten the wrong impression.

Carter let out a breath he had been holding and smiled brightly when she said she liked it,

"Well that's good, since I was still sort of in songwriting mode after writing all the songs for TFT and we talked about why I don't have a girlfriend yet. I realized that you were right and that I just haven't met her yet and...voila this came about." At her next statement Carter laughed and shook his head, "No, no, I'd be far to embarrassed to do that. Also knowing my luck my voice would crack and it would just be awful." His laughter faded out as his nerves arose again when he realized that he couldn't delay it any longer. He had invited her over, not to listen to his song...it was something much more personal and important. He could only pray she wouldn't freak out.

"So Gracie," Carter fiddled with his hands trying to calm down, "I know that you're probably wondering why I asked you over today. And it wasn't to listen to my song, I did that to maybe calm my nerves about this and it didn't really help but whatever." He took a deep breath, "I asked you over because I want to ask a favor of you...I was wondering if you'd...maybe...give me kissing lessons," Carter held up his hands to still her before she could say anything, "now just hear me out before you freak out or anything. I just want to practice with you and you can tell me what I'm doing wrong or whatever. It won't mean anything and we won't tell anyone...no one can know...especially Julius...or my aunt. She'd think we were practicing more than kissing and that's just gross....not that you're gross just...yeah. So...will you? Please Gracie you're the only person I can ask to do this, you're my best friend and I trust you to be honest."
