It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
The hell it was. Alfie kicked his feet as he walked, effectively tossing up bits of snow that had gotten picked up by his boot along the way. It had already gotten cold out, snowed about dozen times and yet no amount of Christmas music could put Alfie in the Christmas spirit. He wasn't sure if it was the fact that he was suddenly a teenage boy who no longer believed in Santa Claus or if his breakup with Laney was affecting him more than he led on, but Alfie was totally not feeling Christmas this year. All practices had been cancelled due to the weather, and Alfie, instead of calling his parents or one of his sisters to come pick him up, decided to just walk home.
Sure, it was freezing, but Alfie didn't mind. Or well, he did, but he was pushing through it. He needed time to think, time away from his family to sort out what all was going through his mind. He had gone through an array of emotions over the course of just a few months. There was a time when all Alfie could see was the red film of rage covering his eyes. Every little thing around him angered him for some reason. It was like he was infected with gamma rays or something. Then, things started to feel better with Laney. She was his best friend and his girlfriend. It just seemed to make sense to him at the time. And now? Now, he was alone. He wasn't angry or upset. He was just alone.
The flurries in the air around him tickled his nose, but he ignored them as best as he could. As he thought back on this year, he realized just how much he had learned and grown. It was more than a physical growth too. He was slowly turning into a man, and the idea slightly scared him. The sound of a car coming to a halt beside him made him look up. The person inside the car rolled down the passenger side window and smiled over at him. Alfie looked surprised.
