Didn't Mary Ann know just nonsensical this all was. But all she could do was nod her head. She'd said all she could say to Toni. All she knew how to say actually because in more ways than one Mary Ann was running more on autopilot than actually there. Inform, hold, cry, repeat. That was her new cycle setting. She couldn't break the pattern even if she wanted to. But at least with the pattern she knew the steps, knew what came next and she couldn't mess up something quite so simple without going completely soft in the head.
She let go though when he pulled away. As much as she enjoyed the comfort of another person's embrace she wasn't going to cling to him. She was older she had to be strong. But his question caught her off guard and new things started to come through the mantra of actions she was expected to perform for friends and family. Josie had been at the house last night. She'd heard them fighting. Not clearly but she knew what her brother sounded like when he was upset very well and it had been unmistakeable. She nodded her head in confirmation, "Yeah." One of her hands coming up to wipe her nose. It was gross and normally she would have gone to get a tissue or paper towel with Toni or anyone around but moving was not that high on her list of priorities compared to getting snot off her face. "What are you thinking?" Because if it was anything like what was going through her head Mary Ann was pretty sure she just found a new reason to dislike the girl.
