She nodded mutely in answer to his first question. She didn’t want to answer the second. She didn’t want to hurt him, Toni had been Alan’s best friend for years, he was her surrogate brother. Telling him was going to be like telling her cousins, maybe even worse. Her bottom lip quivered as she tried to figure out the best way to word it. Why did this have to be so painful? Especially when he was being nice enough to clean her up.
