"She's remarried with a son who moved here, I expect that counts as a reason for returning." He'd heard that was the official reason, anyway. His distrust of her instantly made him skeptical of this, but it had been a long time since he'd last seen her.
It was possible that telling Samuel what she had said she'd do to the children would add some insight, but he wasn't willing for that to get out. Beyond what was necessary to tell the psychiatrists and whatever angry nonsense she'd babbled to them, no one else knew the extent of her threats, which was a small relief in the whole situation. Satisfying as it would be to see her lynched by his colleagues, by fellow parents, it would not be of any benefit to anyone.
"If it were my son's mother," his mind forging on past the thought of Eva because he was in no way making a comparison, "he may have been able to absorb any caution I gave him and taken great care in how to approach this." He tipped his head slightly, shifting his fingers a fraction further around the glass. "My daughter is another matter." He didn't wish to expand on the details of this, so he took another sip of his drink. "Regardless, I've been asked to let Kathryn get settled in first. She may not even want them told, considering the amount of time it's taken her to show herself. There's also her other child to consider." No personal concern of his, yet probably one to her.
