Who: Johnny and Kaylee What: A picnic and a confession Where: Puddle Hop Beach When: Thursday afternoon Rating: Who knows with Johnny's mouth!
It was long past noon when Johnny finally woke up. He had gotten home at around 7 AM from his night shift with Penny the night before. Sleep had overcome him the second he fell into bed. He didn't realize just how exhausting it was to work at keeping someone happy for an extended period of time so that she wouldn't have to think she was on the verge of death all the time. He liked to think he was rather good at it though. A quick glance at his phone reminded him that it was Thursday and that he had neglected his girlfriend for his cousin for far too long.
After getting a shower, putting on some fresh clothes that didn't smell like he was the one in the hospital and grabbing a small snack, Johnny headed out to Puddle Hop Beach. He hadn't been outside for too long before his t-shirt began to stick to him. The heat wasn't unbearable, but it was rather humid out today for some reason. It annoyed him that he had gotten yet another shirt sweaty even after he had taken a shower. For the picnic, Johnny had brought along a small boom box and his iPod. Sure, it seemed like it could do no harm, but this was a Bose. Just because it was small meant absolutely nothing.
He walked along the dunes just holding his boom box in one hand and staring out at the waves. It suddenly hit him that it was nearly the end of July. Summer was almost over and school would be starting soon. Moreover, he hadn't spent a single day out on the beach like most of his schoolmates. Usually, he didn't blame Penny for being sick. It was his choice to stay with her anyway, and he would be too worried about her to do much else and actually enjoy it. Sometimes though, he wished his life and the people around him were a bit more normal.
