Fucking Songbird... Kaylee was trying to discourage the idea to Johnny that this whole Songbird thing was just an attempt to start more drama and finger pointing. Hell she was half surprised that there hadn't been rumors going around that it was why no one would tell why Penny was sick and had suddenly collapsed. She wasn't going start spreading that idea just to get the feeling like she was under a microscope now. It didn't seem right to her to worry Johnny like that even if she did keep skirting around the issue with him. She was also pretty sure that he was going to freak out and run away which was also something she didn't want to deal with right now. Too many people would ask why and with her luck he would be telling them that the whole J/K probably hadn't stood for "Just Kidding". She was having a hard enough time the past week and a half trying to figure out how to come clean to her parents without worrying about the rest of the school being in the middle of her business. Kaylee couldn't even guess at what some of her other classmates were going to say when they found out. There was no such thing as a secret when you lived on Frye Island.
She had tried to enjoy the holiday as much as she could even just hanging out with Johnny for a bit. Honestly she had fallen asleep at one point to be woken up by the loud BANG BANG of fireworks going off over their heads. She was just exhausted and even her little tips and tricks for avoiding getting sick didn't always work. Half the time she wanted to sleep and the other half of the time was spent trying to avoid running for the bathroom. Her body was pretty much feeling like it had been invaded by an alien life force and she was considering just calling it E.T. since there was probably going to be some point that it would be easier just to have a nickname of some sort. And sometimes the little alien seemed to have complete control considering how quick she was to snap at people. The poor girl that sold the programs and other things from the plays had run out of the room crying after getting verbal whiplashed over spilling water on the floor. Kaylee had apologized afterward, but there was a certain amount of guilt for people who were putting up with her acting like that. It was probably paranoia that made her feel like everyone was checking out her stomach. Or the fact that everyone seemed to be putting together that she had been feeling sick and was now trying to act as fine as she possibly could be.
The lack of sleep over the past night hadn't done much for her health either. She was exhausted, but her mind wouldn't stop running long enough for her to actually fall asleep. Once she was sure the house had all fallen asleep, she had grabbed her blanket off of her bed and gone down to the living room. Her father had an old rocker/recliner that was nice to just curl up in with a bowl of dry cereal. Eventually her parents were going to start wondering why she was gaining weight and seemed even more secretive than usual. She sat there flipping through different advice pages for ideas. It helped some, but even then Kaylee didn't know what to expect. She didn't have a bunch of former experience in giving her parents bad news and their reactions. Even her sister was far from being a wild child getting brought up by the police. There was not going to be an easy way out of this... 5 AM came finally and she was feeling at least a little better knowing the difference between the not-feeling-well and just knots in her stomach from nervousness. She could try to make breakfast. Just something that might keep their mouths busy long enough to chew and swallow before she started getting yelled at if it came to that. There were still plenty of blueberries left in the fridge and it had been quite a while since she had made fresh muffins from scratch. The smell would hopefully wake them up without sending her speeding again for the bathroom. She grabbed her vitamin for the day out of their current hiding spot and took it while everything was baking. They'd know why she was popping pills soon enough as long as she could keep her nerve.
