"Well it seemed like the least I could do since I managed to stop by at just the right time." He was trying his best to be a better liar right now rather than admit that she had scared the ever loving hell out of him since he'd first found out. Bast tugged at the bottom of his shirt just trying to straighten it out from the rumpled mess it had become. It was a little easier to try and lie when he could just focus down at her feet rather than looking her in the eye right now. "Just glad that you're relatively alright. Noelle was worried and all. Probably thought that they'd find your lungs all blackened with newspaper ink."
He smiled a little at his own joke before finally looking up at her. Had she always looked so frail, or was it just the IV that looked huge in her thin arms and the way that the hospital bed just made it look? The smile just faded into a frown while he ran his fingers through his hair again. It needed to be said, but like with all people it was hard to actually get the words to leave his throat. "I'm sorry." He should have been there. At least known what was going on at the same time if not before half the town and now it was pretty much all over. "I was being stupid and angry and I couldn't even complain to my other friends about it. I mean it made sense when I had time to think about it, but..." Bast went over and sat down in the chair. "I'm just sorry."
