Annie went over and hugged her, still trying not to cut off her air supply. Of course there was also the slight need to just straighten out Penny's hair after she pulled back. Unless she cut visitors off for the night after this, there was still the matter of paperboy showing up to see her. "Well... One second I thought I heard you saying my name and told you just one minute and the next there was a thud and you were out cold. Your mom's been the only one really giving us updates and even that hasn't been too much. And hopefully you'll like this slightly better than my gift that year."
She sat on the edge of the bed and unrolled the load. There were various drawings done with almost every medium the four year old Markl had at his disposal. A couple of them involved flowers, one of which had little boy hands traced out and colored in to make up five petals of a large yellow flower. She had purposefully avoided paints as they required drying but there was one at the bottom with Annie's tidy handwriting of "GET WELL SOON!" across it with a drawing that was meant to be Penny and Markl out playing with butterflies. "Markl and I spent the evening making you some fabulous art work to decorate your room. I was just going to leave them with your mom before they tried to shoo us out. Not that they're very good at it."
