WHO: Donnie and Emily WHAT: Sneaking out after hours WHERE: The off-island trip WHEN: Late June 15th, early June 16th RATING: Medium (possibly High, due to Donnie's mouth) STATUS: In progress
Donnie simply couldn't take it any longer. His emotions were in overdrive and his adrenaline had made his heart start to pump as if he had been running a mile a minute. He had been sitting in the dark, looking out the window for the past hour and a half while his bunk mate had gone to sleep. What the fuck, man? How many kids had the opportunity to get off the island, be virtually unsupervised, be forced to watch some stupid plays that most in their grade could still barely understand the majority of the time, and then not be anxious when all was settling down. To be honest, Donnie had been debating amongst himself to actually do this; he actually weighed the pros and cons. He knew his aunt had to be asleep by now, as did most of the other kids. Admittedly he was a little tired but there was no way in Hell he was sleeping now. This could've been one of the biggest opportunities he had of seeing the world off the island, aside from visiting grandparents and other family. Fine, that had just decided it. Donnie was not going to sleep before he had done a little exploring on his own.
He quietly stood up from the chair and moved across the room passed his bunk mate's bed towards the door. Something about what he was doing just felt right. He didn't know where his extra confidence was coming from but it just gave him an extra shot of energy. It must've been his adrenaline. He only ever really felt this way when he was about to kick a field goal. Once he reached the door, he pulled it open very slowly. He got it just about half way open before it squeaked. He stopped where he was and looked back into the room and listened. Not a sound, except for the continuous, unstartled breathing of his bunk mate. Donnie gave a sigh of relief before he peeked out into the hall and quickly slipped around the door before shutting it silently. The hall seemed brilliantly bright, almost blinding him, since he had been sitting in the dark. He took a moment to let his eyes adjust as he looked around. He hadn't thought past getting outside the door and didn't really know what to do, but standing in the hallway wasn't going to. As he spun around to head towards the elevators, Donnie banged his knee into a cart one of the maids must've left sitting there. His lip was hurting more than his knee because of how hard he was biting into it so he didn't cry out, but the commotion was still loud enough for a few of the rooms around him to hear. Thankfully, his aunt placed herself a little further down the hall.
Emily was already awake, the excitement of actually being off island for once was electrifying. Also the bright lights of the city was something so new and magical to see. After finishing another poem her eyes shot over to the clock by the bed. 11:30pm, she had no idea it was already so late. Now once she was ready for bed she realized that she needed her usual drink that she always kept by her bed at night. All that she knew they had was the ridiculously overpriced minibar in their room. However, she had seen a soda machine down the hall earlier. Hopefully they'd have bottled water or Sprite or something without caffeine. Pretty sure that no one was awake still she wasn't that self conscious about sneaking out of her room dressed in her pajamas that consisted of an oversized t-shirt and a pair of boxer shorts. Once she made it to the machine and made her selection she heard a little crash, well the sound of someone running into something. Being curious she stuck her head out of the small alcove with the soda machine as she made her way back to her room. Her eyes fell on the last person she wanted to see. Donnie Abrams. He had been sort of....normal recently. Hadn't throw paper balls at her in class anymore. She guessed Sean got through to him. She would have to pass him to get to her room. She decided to just ignore him, but then she noticed his clothes. Those weren't bed clothes...what was he up to.
"And just where do you think you're going, curfew was over an hour ago?"
It took a moment for the stinging pain in Donnie's knee to subside. Knowing from previous experience of what serious leg injuries felt like, he figured that it was alright but it had just hurt like a bitch. He put his leg back down, as it had shot up and out of the way of the cart, and tested his strength on it. It was a little sore but nothing he couldn't handle. He couldn't let a stupid mistake ruin this night for him, no fucking way. He decided to keep moving before someone decided to check out the noise that came from out in the hall. He kept his gaze on his knee a moment as he heard a stern sounding tone from ahead. Fuck, I'm busted, he thought. He nearly froze solid as he turned his eyes up to look ahead of him and saw it was Emily Elwood. From the looks of her, it looked like she was either getting out of bed or about to get into it. Donnie couldn't help but notice the nice pair of legs that were holding her up, since her boxers were a little more showy than what he was used to seeing her in. He smirked and played it off cool as he continued down the hall in her direction. "I heard you were looking for a cuddle buddy and thought I would offer you my services?" He laughed under his breath at his remark, "I see you're ready."
Emily raised an eyebrow her lips pursed trying to look scary and teacher like...maybe scare him back in to bed, where he belonged. Also dissuade him from being his normal obnoxious self. She saw him freeze when he saw it was her. She held her expression firm and fought the urge to smile. He was scared. But then she noticed his eyes glance over her legs. What was it with her legs? She used them to walk and everyone had them. First James now Donnie. Boys were so weird. She never oogled boys legs. Their arms maybe...but never legs. Her lips turned into a scowl as he smirked and got closer. If he wanted to be able to walk the next morning he better stay back, Emily wasn't afraid to fight dirty if the occasion called for it. At his lewd comment she scoffed,
"Charming as always. Trust me if I wanted a cuddle buddy you'd be the last person I'd ask," she paused as a devious idea came to mind, "however, if Sean was here I'd totally take him up on the offer."
Donnie rolled his eyes and then started in with a very fain and dramatic tone, "I'm devastated to hear that, truly. My heart is breaking at this very moment into little tiny pieces. I don't know how much longer I can stand it." He shook his head and laughed at the mention of Sean. "Especially after having propositioned all the girls in school. Oh yeah, I bet you're just aching to jump his bones now, aren't you?" He couldn't dump on his adopted brother too much since Sean went out for him and got him a dog, but that was probably the stupidest move he'd ever heard of in the history of men hitting on women. Donnie wasn't exactly a genius in that department either but at least he had enough sense to know that that wasn't a great idea. Everyone was entitled to a few mistakes, even though he himself took advantage of them; although, honestly, he had no regrets. He realized the longer he stood there with Emily, talking... arguing... or whatever they were doing, the greater and greater chance he had of getting caught, and it was going on longer than he really wanted it to, with the whole world being just downstairs and out the door and all. "Since you don't have any more use for me, I think I'll be on my way so goodnight." He started to continue down the hall before he turned around once more to get one last annoying word in, "Give your teddy bear a big hug for me!" He smirked as he started to turn back around and headed for the stairs.
"And what if I am, he's sweet, we are good friends, and he isn't a pompous jerk like someone I know. I happen to like nice boys." Truthfully she would never consider jumping Sean's bones, no offense or anything, but one he was younger than her and also there wasn't that little...thing that would make her want to. He was a great guy, but just not for her. Emily rolled her eyes at his comment of not having use for him, like she ever would have use for him. Her eyes followed him as he made his way towards....the stairs. Not his room...the stairs. What was he up to? He couldn't be doing what she thought he was doing.
"You're sneaking out aren't you?" A wicked smirk came to her face, "You're gonna get caught."
