Kate let an arm slide around her daughter's shoulders, fingertips smoothing over Savannah's hair. It was one thing playing actress with the other genetically altered children around town; it was something else when it came to lying to your own children.
"These things happen, Savannah," she began gently. "I know how upset you must be." She'd probably read about it from her journal in the near future, anyway. "But there's nothing wrong with Hobbs, you know." Sort of. She'd never pictured her children going to a community college, that was for sure. "You can get a good education there, and, of course, if you still aren't comfortable after a year, you can try for a transfer if you keep your grades up." A transfer that she'd never get, but perhaps the idea of it would keep Savannah's chin up long enough for her to get settled in and decide she'd rather stay at Hobbs.
